Goodbye ‘Reacher,’ Amazon’s New 8-Episode Revenge Thriller Becomes the No. 1 Series in the World

Last week, Amazon’s new TV series based on a Stephen King classic arrived worldwide on Prime Video and officially beat the streamer’s biggest franchise. Though Reacher and its spin-off Neagley remain popular action offerings, they have been defeated in the streaming wars by the revenge thriller that critics are calling “an absolute must-watch.” Alan Ritchson’s Jack Reacher might be the ultimate action hero, but he’s got nothing on the teenager who decided to fight back when she had enough.

‘Carrie’ Has Become the No. 1 Series in the World

The show is Amazon’s new bet on Stephen King’s 1974 classic, Carrie. Adapted by horror visionary Mike Flanagan, the series offers a modern take on the story first brought to the big screen by Brian De Palma in 1976, following a teenager with telekinetic powers who fights back after her bullies subject her to a cruel prank. Although subsequent adaptations failed to match the success of De Palma’s film, Amazon still gave Flanagan’s version the green light. 2026’s Carrie might be divisive among viewers, but the debate surrounding it clearly hasn’t stopped audiences from checking it out.

Carrie debuted at No. 1 after its premiere on October 7. According to the latest chart update, the series remains at the top of both the global and U.S. rankings, with Neagley and Reacher sitting at No. 2 and 3, respectively. Not bad for the horror thriller that has also earned an 85% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes and further cemented Flanagan’s reputation as one of the go-to filmmakers for Stephen King adaptations.

What’s Coming Next for ‘Reacher’?

Even though Carrie has become Reacher and Neagley’s latest unexpected opponent, the franchise built around Lee Child’s character is far from finished. As expected, Reacher Season 4 proved successful, and the franchise’s momentum helped pave the way for a spin-off. Neagley proved to be more than a worthy successor, introducing a new and exciting action hero who could stand on her own. It seems that things are just beginning in the action thriller universe created by Nick Santora.

The main series is set to return with Season 5, which will adapt Child’s novel Make Me and follow our hero as he heads to the town of Mother’s Rest to investigate a local conspiracy. Ritchson will be joined by the usual cast members, and newcomers include Jay Baruchel, Kevin Durand, and Amanda Ip. Season 5 of Reacher is currently in production, and though details are under wraps, Child teased a “brutal” entry: “It’s a disgusting story, really. It’s not fit for family consumption.”

Moreover, the show has already been renewed for Season 6 (it hasn’t been confirmed which Lee Child book it will be based on). The upcoming seasons remain without an official release date, but considering Season 5 is in development, we could be looking at a 2027 premiere.

After a successful debut on Prime Video, Neagley is also set to return in the future. Season 2 has received the green light for production, underscoring Amazon’s ongoing faith in what’s arguably the studio’s strongest action IP at the moment.
