Quaint seaside town with cosy pubs named best autumn staycation | UK | Travel

Summer is over and autumn is here. Although summer is a lovely time to get away on holiday, the fun doesn’t have to stop when the weather gets colder. In fact, autumn is one of the most beautiful times of year in the UK.

The leaves are turning golden, there are fewer crowds and a cosy pub after a long walk is the perfect autumn activity. If you’re looking for somewhere in the UK to visit that truly shines during the autumn, there’s a gorgeous seaside town in Cornwall that could be the perfect answer.

According to research from credit card company Zable, Fowey in Cornwall is the best value destination for an autumn staycation. It’s not just budget friendly though – it’s also a quaint harbour town with plenty to explore. The town is perched on the banks of the river Fowey and dates back to the medieval age.

Its natural deep water harbour made it an important historical port and trading centre through the ages, and the streets are lined with beautiful Victorian and Edwardian buildings. The area around Fowey is also an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

If you want to explore the surrounding area of the town, then the creeks and coves walk is unmissable. This four mile circular route includes two ferries across the river and showcases the stunning woodlands and coastal paths that the town is nestled in.

The walk takes two to three hours including ferry transfers and is gorgeous at this time of year.

However, if you’d rather stay in the town itself then you won’t be bored. Fowey has a bustling high street packed with independent shops and boutiques that are perfect for an afternoon of window shopping.

Fore Street is the main high street of the town and its winding alleys are a great way to spend an afternoon. Don’t miss a visit to Jo Downes Handmade Glass for locally blown glass art works, or Heather Jane and Co. which showcases art from 180 local makers.

Finish your day up at a classic Cornish pub, the Ship Inn on Trafalgar Square. This historic watering hole was built in 1570 and boasts a massive open fire perfect for a cosy autumn pint.
