Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Release Date & Time

4 years after the climactic end of season 1, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is almost here. With the animation might of Studio Trigger, the emotional writing of Bartosz Sztybor, and the weight of Netflix’s massive audience, Edgerunners 2 has all the ingredients of another slam-dunk hit.

Given the high anticipation, fans are naturally wondering when the series will release. Luckily, Netflix has been quite transparent about the series’ release schedule, making it easy for fans across the globe to tune in the second it goes live.

When Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Releases In Every Region Explained

In terms of North America, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is releasing on October 20th at 12:00 AM PDT on the West Coast and 3:00 AM EDT on the East Coast. Internationally, the series’ release times follow a similar pattern.

Much like the series’ epic and critically acclaimed first season, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is a Netflix original, meaning Netflix is the series’ official streaming home both domestically and abroad. Netflix is also sticking to its typical binge release model, meaning that all 10 episodes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will be available at the same time.

What Is Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 About?

Unlike the first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which was essentially a gang story, Edgerunners 2 is much more of a pulpy thriller. The series follows a young cinephile named Roman who is obsessed with documenting Night City’s inhabitants on film. This brings Roman into contact with a variety of strange individuals such as Weak, a former Edgerunner legend who has lost his luster, and D, a netrunner whose quest for revenge immediately invites comparisons to Naruto’s Sasuke.

All of it brims with story potential, though it remains to be seen whether the new season will live up to the first’s lofty heights. What’s unknown at the time of writing is how exactly Roman would interact with the plots of those around him. Fans have immediately drawn a comparison between Edgerunners 2 and the 2014 film Nightcrawler, but it’s not clear if Roman will be quite as amoral in his pursuit of footage as Jake Gyllenhaal’s character was.

How Will Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 Connect To The First Season?

It’s unclear if the new series will connect to the events of the original. Without spoiling anything, that original series’ ending does not leave much room for a continuation, though it’s entirely possible there will be cameos or minor appearances of characters from season 1.

At the time of writing, though, it seems unlikely that David or even Lucy will have a major role in the follow-up season, if they have a role at all beyond the possibility of cameos. Far more likely is that season 1’s events will be referenced without having a major impact on the overall plot.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is easily Netflix’s most anticipated sci-fi release of the year, so regardless of whether or how it connects to season 1, the series is already close to required viewing for anime and science fiction fans alike.
