With Christmas just around the corner, visiting a traditional Christmas market across the world is at the top of everyone’s festive lists, and there is one that stands out amongst them all.
Many opt for a weekend away to join in with the festivities, and this particular place has just scored high amongst new research conducted by Christmas Tree World, which analysed a range of markets based on key factors.
They looked at Google searches, December hotel prices, entry fees, number of stalls and proximity to public transport to eventually reveal the world’s best Christmas markets for 2026.
Their research found that Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland is the best for budget travellers, Dresden’s Striezelmarkt is the best for families, and Winter Wonders in Brussels offers the cheapest mulled wine.
However, there could only be one overall winner, and that was the hidden gem that is Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany. It is set within a charming and historic city and offers the perfect traditional getaway with low prices, accommodation and plenty of bang for your buck.

If there were ever a place which could make a convincing case for owning the crown as the ultimate Christmas market royalty, it would be Nuremberg.
They scored an impressive 8.2/10 in the study, as a market that has been in the game for 398 years and continues to draw in large crowds today.

Due to its rich history and charming location, it is the perfect traditional German Christmas market many dream of, and with its huge selection of stalls, it doesn’t disappoint. It’s believed to be home to roughly 180 stalls, with glühwein, bratwurst and the market’s own distinctive Zwetschgenmännle, which are small and cute decorative figures traditionally made using dried prunes.
Once visiting, one traveller left a review, writing: “The Nuremberg Christmas Market is absolutely magical. The atmosphere is festive and authentic, with beautiful lights, traditional wooden stalls, and a wonderful holiday spirit.
“There is a great variety of local food, mulled wine, and handmade crafts. It can be busy, but it’s well organised and definitely worth the visit. A must-see Christmas market in Germany.”

Another shared their experience, saying: “Visited here after seeing multiple reviews, stating that Newberg market is one of the best in Germany and it truly lived up to the expectation.
“The number of stalls, different handicrafts, and gift items – and obviously the gluhwein was one of the experiences. There are multiple parking spots around the market and easily reachable by train and bus.”
Compared to the other markets across Europe and the wider world, a December hotel stay averages £144 a night, which is significantly cheaper than other cities. But most importantly, entry to the market is completely free, and the price of mulled wine is comparatively low.
The market is open from Friday 27 November through to Thursday 24 December this year, located in the heart of Hauptmarkt, Nuremberg.
