The end of the year is in sight and DC Comics has revealed what it has waiting for fans during the most wonderful time of the year. DC is going all-out for the holiday season. Not only will Batman / Santa Claus: Silent Knight see the DC Universe team up to fight the Krampus, but many of DC’s ongoing series will feature seasonally appropriate variant covers.
One such cover comes from artist David Talaski, who provides a variant for the upcoming Titans #6. Talaski posted his cover on Twitter, calling the artwork his “‘mall family photo’ variant cover“. The cover sees the seven members of the Titans posing for a Christmas-themed family picture. Not only is the team all wearing red but many of them are dressed up in ugly Christmas sweaters. From Beast Boy’s snowcap-wearing bear to Donna Troy’s festive, ’80s mom-style sweater vest, the team puts on their best outfits and smiles as they take their heartwarming Christmas photo.
The Titans Make a Bold Fashion Statement for Christmas
The Titans are one of the DC Universe’s oldest and most well-known teams. But the next generation of heroes has gotten the chance to step up in a major way after the Justice League disbanded in the wake of Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. Since then, Nightwing has been leading his lifelong friends to become the top defenders of the Earth. Not only have they risen to the occasion, they’ve also made some powerful enemies out of shadowy threats such as Amanda Waller and Peacemaker.
This cover, however, eschews the drama currently unfolding in the pages of Titans for a more lighthearted and silly image. Variant covers often serve as a chance to see heroes in non-traditional settings, and seeing the team pose in such a festive manner is about as non-traditional as one can get. While the team might not take a break in-universe to go down to a local mall photographer decked out in matching sweaters, seeing the team like this is a humorous and heartwarming reminder of how close the team really is.
The Titans’ Christmas Photo Shows the Team is as Close as Family
The DC Universe has plenty of teams, many of them sharing close friendships with one another. But the Titans have a bond that goes back to some of their earliest years as crime-fighters. The team has been through a lot with one another, and they’ve been with each other for some of the most important milestones in their lives. A family photo like this might look or seem silly, but its earnestness captures the heartfelt connection the Titans share with each other. DC fans can get their hands on David Talaski’s heartwarming variant cover for Titans #6 when it goes on sale on December 19th.
