The new cast of Real Housewives of New York revitalized the series. Arguably, a show set in the Big Apple needed a younger, more energetic, and diverse cast that reflected the spirit of the whole city.
And RHONY viewers got it all in the form of Ubah Hassan, Sai De Silva, Jenna Lyons, Brynn Whitfield, Erin Lichy, and Jessel Taank. As Season 14 is airing its reunion episodes, the question of what comes next arises. Will the RHONY cast be returning as a whole for Season 15?
“We just don’t know,” Ubah said of the RHONY cast returning
“Maybe!” Ubah exclusively told The Messenger. “It all depends. We’ll see. We don’t really know yet.”
The striking Somali model spoke at the 25th Anniversary Angel Ball in New York City, and suggested that producers like to keep the suspense peaked “on purpose.” And that none of her co-stars were informed about filming for Season 14 “because they don’t want us to spill the beans.”
“Maybe a little too champagne and people would be like like, ‘Let me tell you…’” Ubah added. “Really, we just don’t know.”
Speaking of not knowing, Ubah explained that going after Jenna and Erin at the reunion was a direct result of only catching up on the season the night before.
“They give us four episodes the night before, and I was working until two in the morning,” she said. “Basically I went there like, just seeing everything. I thought Jenna said, ‘I’m Team Erin,’ but she said, ‘at this moment.’ I didn’t hear, ‘at this moment.’”
It’s all in the edit
Certainly, editing has a role to play on what is presented to the audience. Viewers could be totally in the dark about situations that did not make it into the episode. Ubah explained that disconnect with viewer confusion as to her presentation at the reunion.
“It’s all about the editing, right?,” she said. “They can’t put everything they film, right? So they take what they think is the important to move the story. So there’s a lot of things that people don’t know….even yesterday at the reunion, everyone is like, ‘Ubah came in really hot!’ I’m like, ‘I landed on my point! They just didn’t show you!’”
But Ubah has come to accept that aspect of reality TV, and takes no issue with it. She credited the entertainment aspect of good editing.
“I used to get really upset about that. Now, I’m like, ‘You know what? Let’s entertain the people.’ If they see that, they’re like, ‘Oh, she’s trying to secure the apple.’ I’m like, ‘Bitch, I’m the tree! What apple?!’” Ubah stated.
The Real Housewives of New York City Season 14 reunion concludes Sunday at 9/8c on Bravo.
