Among the major hotel chains with a presence in Canada, Hyatt has a much lower count than other groups, with just 19 hotels available from coast-to-coast-to-coast.
However, Canadians who are loyal to World of Hyatt have a lot to look forward to, as Hyatt is set to double its footprint in Canada by the end of 2026.
Hyatt to Double Footprint in Canada by 2026
Hyatt is set to double its footprint in Canada by 2026, which is good news for travellers looking for more options to earn and redeem World of Hyatt points.
Currently, the chain has 19 hotels in large and smaller markets across Canada, and 23 more are expected to open by the end of 2026.
New hotels that are slated to open include the second Canadian property within The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, which will be located in Ontario’s wine country. Once open, it joins the Okanagan Valley’s Spirit Ridge as another hotel in The Unbound Collection.
Hyatt also has plans to open the Hyatt Centric Winnipeg Downtown in 2025, and the Hyatt Centric Victoria – Old Town will open its doors in 2026.
Two leisure markets that don’t currently have a Hyatt presence will also see the opening of Hyatt properties, including Hyatt Place Whitehorse in 2025, as well as Hyatt House Port Elgin in 2026.
Furthermore, a number of airport locations are set to open, including the following:
- Hyatt Place Mississauga – Airport Corporate Centre (2024)
- Hyatt House Mississauga – Airport Corporate Centre (2024)
- Hyatt Place Montreal – Trudeau International Airport (2025)
- Hyatt Place Toronto International Airport (2025)
- Hyatt House Toronto International Airport (2026)
- Hyatt Place Vancouver International Airport (2026)
- Hyatt House Vancouver International Airport (2026)
These properties that have yet to open join a handful of other hotels under the Hyatt umbrella that have opened in the past few years, including the following:
- The Anndore House, part of JdV by Hyatt, Toronto (2021)
- The Walper Hotel, part of JdV by Hyatt, Kitchener (2022)
- Hyatt Place Montreal Downtown (2022)
- Hyatt Place Toronto/Brampton (2022)
- Hyatt Centric Montreal (2023)
As the properties open, we’ll get a better sense of the categories they belong to, which will dictate the number of points required for an award booking.
More Options Coming for Hyatt Loyalists
With Hyatt set to double its footprint in Canada by 2026, World of Hyatt loyalists will have more options for earning nights towards status without having to leave the country.Â
Compared to Marriott and Hilton, Hyatt has a much smaller footprint in Canada.Â
As it stands, Marriott has a total of 279 Canadian properties, and Hilton has 186 spread out across the country.
Even after 2026, when it’s expected that Hyatt will have around 42 total properties in Canada, there’ll still be a very large gap to fill before the chain gets anywhere close to Marriott and Hilton.
However, Hyatt’s loyalty program, World of Hyatt, is the last of the three to still use an award chart with predictable pricing.Â
What’s more, World of Hyatt’s top-tier Globalist status is also considered to have the strongest and most consistent benefits amongst the three big chains; however, it’s also the most difficult to earn.
Some of the properties that are slated to open may very well be Category 1 or Category 2 properties, which could be good options for earning cheaper elite qualifying nights closer to home, especially during promotions.Â
An even more exciting development would be the addition of a co-branded credit card in Canada, or the ability to convert points into World of Hyatt from a transferable points currency.
In Canada, Marriott Bonvoy points can be earned through co-branded American Express cards, and by transferring American Express Membership Rewards points. There aren’t currently any Hilton Honors co-branded cards in Canada; however, you can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors if needed.
At the moment, the only reasonable ways for Canadians to access the valuable World of Hyatt points are through paid stays, buying points during a sale, and through US-issued Chase credit cards.
Conclusion
Hyatt is set to double its footprint in Canada by 2026. At present, there are 19 properties open across the country, and another 23 are set to open by the end of 2026.
Amongst these will be Canada’s second property in The Unbound Collection, as well as a number of Hyatt Place, Hyatt House, and Hyatt Centric properties at airports and cities across Canada.
This is certainly good news for anyone loyal to World of Hyatt, so be sure to keep an eye out for new options available for your domestic travels over the next couple of years.
