Amazon’s One Medical announces three new partnerships

Amazon’s hybrid primary care provider One Medical announced partnerships this week with Hackensack Meridian Health to improve access to care for New Jersey residents, CommonSpirit Health’s Virginia Mason Franciscan Health to increase care access to Seattle residents and the Health Transformation Alliance to expand care options for employers.

One Medical, which Amazon purchased for $3.9 billion in February, is a membership-based primary care organization offering in-person visits and 24/7 virtual care services. The company also enables provider messaging and prescription assistance.

Through its partnership with Hackensack Meridian Health, One Medical will offer New Jersey residents tech-enabled primary care services with coordinated care through the health network’s providers, hospitals and facilities.

CommonSpirit Health’s Virginia Mason Franciscan Health partnership will focus on improving access to care in the greater Seattle region, allowing One Medical’s members to access specialty care from more than 2,000 specialists within Virginia Mason’s network of outpatient facilities, hospitals and providers.

Virginia Mason will be One Medical’s specialty referral partner for eight clinics in the Seattle region.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health to offer seamless coordinated care across primary and specialty settings to help deliver the highest levels of health, care and value,” Trent Green, CEO of One Medical, said in a statement. “Teaming up with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health further advances One Medical’s mission of transforming health care to improve the patient care experience in the Seattle area.”

One Medical is also collaborating with the Health Transformation Alliance, according to Fierce Healthcare. The hybrid provider will supply 67 employers and nearly 5 million employees access to primary care services. HTA comprises a group of U.S. employers, including Marriott, American Express, Coca-Cola, Intel and Boeing.

THE LARGER TREND

Last week, Amazon announced that Prime members can now have unlimited 24/7 access to One Medical’s virtual care services or schedule same- and next-day in-person or remote appointments at a One Medical primary care office for $9 per month or $99 a year. Prime members can add up to five members at $6 monthly for each membership.

Patients can use their health insurance or pay out of pocket for office visits, while the membership will cover virtual care services through One Medical.

In September, One Medical announced it formed a partnership with digital mental health company Headspace to help consumers reduce anxiety before medical appointments by providing free meditation via One Medical’s platform.

One Medical also announced a partnership with employee-focused care navigation and pharmacy benefits platform Rightway in May to increase access to primary care for employees. The hybrid care provider was added to Rightway’s ecosystem partnership program as an integrated partner.
