Gypsy Rose Blanchard has celebrated her release from prison in a post on her Instagram account, which instantly attracted millions of likes and followers to her account. Promoting the upcoming documentary, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and her soon-to-be-released memoir containing her “reflection” on the events that sent her to jail, Blanchard started her first message to the world with, “I’m finally free.”
Blanchard was released from prison on December 28 after serving seven years of a 10-year sentence for helping to kill her mother. In a case that gripped the U.S., Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder after she worked with her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to kill Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, who had spent years controlling her daughter and convincing her she was sick when she was not. While Blanchard has been released from prison, Godejohn is currently serving a life sentence.
Speaking in the video on her social media post, Blanchard said:
“Hey everyone, this is Gypsy. I’m finally free,” she said Sunday on Instagram. “I just wanted to send a quick video to thank everyone for the massive amount of support that I’ve been getting on social media, everyone has been really, really nice and supportive and I really appreciate that. It’s nice to be home. I’m back home in Louisiana, enjoying a beautiful day outside and I’ve got a lot of great things happening really soon.”
Continuing to promote the imminent documentary, she also shared details of her upcoming e-book, entitled Released: Conversations on the Eve of Freedom. She added:
“It’s not a rehashing of everything that happened, it’s more of my reflection of everything that I’ve learned and experienced in the last eight and a half years.”
Gypsy Rose Blanchard Stands to Cash In on Her Release
True-crime stories are always big business, as has been proven recently with releases such as Netflix’s Ryan Murphy drama, Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and Blanchard’s story has already been adapted into the 2019 Hulu drama series, The Act. Now the new documentary, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, which was recorded on the eve of Blanchard’s parole hearing, sees Blanchard recalling the emotional turmoil she suffered at the hands of her mother, and what she had to do in order to survive. The limited series will also show the preparation for her prison wedding and reveal the identity of her fiancé for the first time.
The intense interest in the documentary, and Blanchard herself, is now reportedly set to earn her millions. Having seen her Instagram account followers soar to 4.7 million from a static 1.2 million before her release, she also promoted her arrival on Snapchat and promoted her TikTok account, which itself has 1.4 million. Having already started promoting her e-book, which is guaranteed to become an instant bestseller, and having a strong foothold in a social media world that can make anyone a millionaire overnight, it is clear that Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s story is a long way from being over.
