Joan Vassos & Chock Chapple’s Wedding Update Proves Marriage Isn’t Important To Them Right Now (Their Kids Come First)

The Golden Bachelorette’s Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple are committed to putting their family first, even when that means delaying their wedding plans. Joan and Chock’s journey together has centered around blending their families. Chock has two children from his first marriage, while Joan and her late husband shared four children. Since their engagement, the couple has been busy trying to merge their lives while maintaining a long-distance relationship, with Joan living in Maryland and Chock in Kansas.

Despite getting engaged only weeks after meeting on The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan and Chock made it clear they weren’t rushing into marriage. Both were processing emotions after the deaths of their last partners and wanted to proceed with caution out of respect for their children. Joan and Chock intended to have a long engagement and stated their wedding wouldn’t be until late 2025 or early 2026. Now, recent developments within their family have delayed their timeline even further. As Joan and Chock juggle their family obligations and hectic schedules, their wedding plans are becoming less of a priority.

Joan & Chock Reveal Why They Won’t Be Getting Married This Year

Two Of Joan’s Sons Have Impending Weddings

Although Joan and Chock gushed about their future wedding plans soon after their engagement on The Golden Bachelorette finale, there were few concrete updates in the months that followed. Now, in an interview with Bachelor Nation, Joan and Chock clarified their reason for stepping back from wedding planning. One of Joan’s sons is getting married later this year, and she expects her other son will become engaged soon.

Understandably, Joan is happy to allow her wedding plans to “take a back seat” as she celebrates these exciting milestones within her family. While Joan and Chock aren’t prioritizing their wedding, it’s far from a sign of trouble in their relationship. Rather, it shows how in sync their priorities are. Joan and Chock agreed from the start that their children would always come first, and they’re now living up to their claims.

Joan & Chock Are Smart Enough To Know When They Have A Good Thing Going

They’re Happy With The Current Status Of Their Relationship

Joan and Chock’s relationship is anything but conventional, and it seems to work well for them. They met on a reality show and live in opposite parts of the country. Yet Joan and Chock are secure in their relationship. Joan told Bachelor Nation, “We’re really enjoying where we are right now and I think if we put that pressure on us, we won’t enjoy what we’re doing now… right now, what we’re doing is perfect.” Joan and Chock don’t need a legal marriage to prove their love, and their engagement may stretch for years or even decades.

Joan & Chock Are Content With A Long Engagement

They’ve Always Intended To Take Their Time

Chock and Joan are still having fun, as seen above on his Instagram. However, setting a wedding date isn’t their top priority. Joan and Chock made it clear soon after their engagement that they were in no rush to get married. Their relationship was fast-tracked during The Golden Bachelorette, and they were still getting to know each other. Prior to the finale airing, Joan and Chock were forced to keep their relationship a secret, which meant they couldn’t be spotted out in public together.

The need to adjust first to life outside the mansion, and then life outside the privacy of their homes, gave Joan and Chock plenty to focus on besides wedding planning. Joan and Chock have both been married before. They’ve already experienced the excitement of a wedding day, allowing them to approach their second wedding with a very relaxed attitude. They don’t intend to have children together, which takes the pressure off rushing marriage in order to start a family.

The Golden Bachelorette‘s Joan Vassos and Chock are in a very secure place in their lives, and it seems like marriage is simply paperwork. Above all, Joan and Chock have always prioritized their children in their relationship. While, by all accounts, their children are supportive of their parents’ engagement, there are always complications when it comes to merging two existing families. Joan and Chock are respectful, always making sure their children are happy before thinking about taking the next steps towards their wedding.

Their long engagement gives the new blended family plenty of time to acclimate. It also gives Joan’s sons space to enjoy their weddings. All this is further evidence that Joan and Chock’s marriage isn’t as important as the well-being of their family.

The Golden Bachelorette marked a positive change for the Bachelor franchise on the heels of several disappointing seasons. Joan stayed true to her values throughout her quest for love, and along the way, she and many of her suitors were able to heal from the losses they’d endured. She and Chock may not be gearing up for the lavish wedding she once envisioned, but the change in plans might be for the best. Joan and Chock are perfectly content with their relationship and know better than to let a good thing slip away.

The Golden Bachelorette is available to stream on Hulu.
