Intense Chicago Fire Season 11 Finale Has Fans Divided

Wolf Entertainment and NBC have Firehouse 51 buzzing in the show’s year-ender as Chief Boden’s squad deals with a mix of personal and professional challenges. Casey’s homecoming isn’t the only noteworthy thing to happen in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale, however, as the show also tackles the crumbling marriage of Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd, not to mention a new bubbling threat in the Windy City that put one of Firehouse 51’s own in danger. Check out some of the viewers’ reactions to the episode below:

Fans are clearly rooting for Severide to finally come home, while everyone is hoping that Mouch survives his injury. Interestingly, however, Casey’s proposal has garnered some backlash, with some pointing out that Chicago Fire is simply recycling storylines from his and Gabby Dawson’s romance.

What To Expect From Chicago Fire Season 12

NBC has already renewed Chicago Fire for season 12, although it’s unsure how the ongoing Writers Guild Strike of 2023 will impact its production in the summer. Regardless of how the network handles the specifics of its return, the One Chicago inaugural show has some big cliffhangers to resolve when it returns for a new episode. Aside from Mouch’s situation, it’s worth noting that Brett hasn’t given an official answer to Matt’s proposal yet.

Coming into Chicago Fire season 12, however, the biggest question is still Severide’s situation. His sudden absence from season 11 stems from Taylor Kinney’s request for some personal time in the middle of the year. This forced the writers to scrap previously written scripts and change the trajectory of his relationship with Kidd. His leave is supposed to be temporary, but between the lack of any updates about his return and the way Chicago Fire is handling Severide’s time away, some are convinced that the creative team is gearing up to write the character out.

It’s bold for NBC to end Chicago Fire season 11 with several lingering plotlines. One Chicago isn’t new to cliffhanger endings. In fact, it tends to do that to keep fans engaged during breaks. However, leaving three big storylines hanging in the balance indicates that they’re confident its viewers are invested enough to wait throughout the summer before they get any resolution.
