More Access to Major US Airports

United’s resumed Canadian routes are set to provide additional connections for both the East and West Coasts of Canada to United and Star Alliance partner flights out of major US hubs.

The Newark–Halifax route will give Haligonians a second non-stop option for flying to Newark, as Air Canada also provides direct flights on this route, It will also support more diversity in choice for journeys onward to other destinations.

The Halifax airport also has similar routes with American Airlines and Delta both offering direct service to New York City’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA).

This route will also become another option to make a positioning flight to the New York area for the purposes of catching an onward flight with Star Alliance, Oneworld, or SkyTeam airlines.

Newark is a major United hub airport

For Vancouverites, the new route to Washington Dulles provides another non-stop option with the chance to connect further, and it joins Air Canada’s direct service on the same route.

With many Star Alliance airlines operating out of Newark and Washington Dulles, the new routes add to Air Canada’s similar offerings, providing another way to connect to partnered airlines and their global network of routes.

Where these new routes appear to offer something of note is in their ability to connect travellers from Halifax and Vancouver with United‘s considerable network in the US and Mexico, providing seamless journeys to smaller, regional airports, as well as to Europe and the Caribbean.

One final thing to keep in mind with United’s new routes is their preferred partnership with Marriott Bonvoy.

If you’re a Marriott Ambassador Elite or Titanium Elite member, you can enjoy complimentary United MileagePlus Premier Silver status and a handful of other perks and benefits on flights with United, including eligibility for upgrades, complimentary Economy Plus seats at check-in, and one free checked bag.

Conclusion

United Airlines has announced the resumption of two routes between Halifax (YHZ) and Newark (EWR), as well as Vancouver (YVR) and Washington Dulles (IAD), which are slated to begin service in May 2024.

The new routes connect Canadians on both coasts with hub airports that are well-serviced by United and other Star Alliance airlines, and they improve travellers’ access to United’s considerable network of regional airports in the US, Mexico, and beyond.
