He’s guilty of “dismissing compelling data” showing “dramatic declines in reading and maths scores among American grade schoolers, including precipitous declines among students from poorer schools” as a result of school closure policies he favored. “Fauci has bobbed and weaved on other Covid controversies, including the origin of the virus, the appropriate distance between humans to avoid viral spread and the suppression of lockdown criticism.” Yet “the media have steadfastly avoided any substantial coverage of Dr Fauci’s failings. They have allowed one of the most powerful men of the pandemic era to shirk all responsibility.” “Journalists’ silence on the untruths of ‘America’s Covid doctor’ is alarming.” “Will he ever be held accountable?”
Conservative: UNRWA a Total Hamas Pawn
As a shocking report reveals that “men in Gaza who work for the UN are more likely to be involved with Hamas than those who don’t have jobs” with UNRWA, Commentary’s Seth Mandel demands that “funding should be stopped and routed through some other organization or authority with no connection to the UN.” Most of UNRWA’s budget, 58%, “goes to ‘education,’ ” but “as has been thoroughly documented, the education part of those schools is dedicated to incitement and medieval Jew-hatred.” That is, “the schooling system” is “a slush fund for a Hamas farm team.” Now “all plausible deniability has been incinerated”: “UNRWA is a vehicle for Hamas to steal the majority of money donated globally for Palestinian relief.”
Foreign desk: The Middle East’s High Stakes
“Five decades of often painful experience” prove “we can neither ‘fix’ the Middle East nor ignore it,” warns The Wall Street Journal’s Walter Russell Mead. America’s key goals: stopping Iran, Russia and China from dominating the region and blocking the flow of energy and limiting the “effect” of radical ideologies. The Mideast’s “on fire today” because Team Biden’s key goal — détente with Iran — “has catastrophically failed”; Iran’s closer to nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, the Taliban’s comeback, Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack and “jihadist movements across much of Africa” have breathed “new energy” into global terrorism. Middle East failures have wrecked presidencies. “As the White House scrambles to respond to Iran’s latest attack on American forces, let’s hope it recognizes how high the stakes have become.”

In comments to a group of Somalis, Rep. Ilhan Omar said “she’s a Somalian first and a Muslim second” and promised “to use her power and influence in Congress to protect” Somalia’s interests, moving The Federalist’s John Daniel Davidson to ask: “Why is she allowed to serve in Congress? Why is she even allowed to remain in the United States?” (She became a citizen in 2000, at 17.) Her remarks “illustrate how her presence in the United States is a searing indictment of our entire immigration system.” “We need to take a step back and remind ourselves” that “immigration policy should serve the interests of ordinary Americans. And the primary way, historically, it has done so is by restricting who can come here and under what circumstances.”
Libertarian: Canada Lets Kids Be Kids
The Canadian Pediatric Society says, “Kids need to climb trees, jump off things, and ride their bikes — even at speed,” cheers Lenore Skenazy at Reason. The Pediatric Society report recognizes two truths: Kids “are hard-wired to play because it aids their development” and “when kids play without adult supervision, they hone their social and emotional coping skills.” Pediatricians are encouraged to “promote risky play as preventative medicine for mental health.” Safety data shows “children are less likely to be injured while engaging in unstructured activities than when playing an organized sport.” It seems “the real risk in ‘risky play’ is that our culture has been busy outlawing it.” “If even overly cautious Canada is saying safety culture has swung too far, it’s time to jump off the swing.”
