No Way Home Trailer With Record-Breaking Launch

Summary

  • Deadpool & Wolverine trailer breaks record: Viewed 365 million times in 24 hours, surpassing Marvel’s Spider-Man.
  • Smart decision to premiere trailer during Super Bowl, most-viewed telecast ever with 123.7 million viewers.
  • Highly anticipated film stays true to R-rated comic book roots and brings back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Deadpool is making his first mark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe known in a very big way. Deadpool 3, now known as Deadpool & Wolverine, premiered its first trailer during Sunday’s Super Bowl and the first look has now broken a major noteworthy record.

Per Variety, the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine was viewed a staggering 365 million times in its first 24 hours. This breaks the previous 24-hour record that was set by Marvel’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which hit 355.5 million views in the same time frame. A 30-second spot premiered during the Super Bowl game, which featured an overtime match-up between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, which saw the former winning it all in the end. After the spot premiered, the full trailer was made available online.

Premiering the trailer during the game proved to be a very smart decision because many eyes were watching the big game, which itself was revealed to be the most-viewed telecast of all time with a total of 123.7 million viewers tuning in. The Super Bowl is typically a must-watch event, which is why studios try to get some of their biggest upcoming films featured during the game. A 30-second ad for this year’s game went for $7 million and given the fact that this game had even more eyes on it due to Taylor Swift being in attendance to cheer on her Kansas City Chief boyfriend, Travis Kelce, it was probably a pretty good year for a studio to fork over money for a prime spot.

Deadpool & Wolverine is 2024’s Most Anticipated Movies

Deadpool & Wolverine is highly anticipated for several reasons. After the first two films were released by 20th Century Fox, the property was then shifted to Disney once the Mouse House acquired Fox and all that came with it. The films, the last of which was released in 2018, are hard R-rated comic book romps, so many fans were concerned that they would be neutered by Disney but, given the tone of the trailer and according to those involved with the film, that will not be the case. Deadpool & Wolverine is set to be the MCU’s first R-rated theatrical release and their only film on the release calendar this year.

The film marks the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The actor last played the role in 2017’s Logan and even though he claimed on many occasions that it was his last hurrah as the character, Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds helped get him out of retirement for what seems to be a fun take on multiverse storylines that have become commonplace in the MCU. Also, with the inclusion of Jackman’s X-Men character, there are other rumors that more faces from the Fox mutant line-up could make cameo appearances alongside performers such as Jennifer Garner, who is reported to be featured as her Daredevil character Elektra, despite her recent coy denials.

Directed by Shawn Levy from a script he wrote with Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, Deadpool & Wolverine also stars Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni, and Matthew Macfayden.

Deadpool & Wolverine
is scheduled to hit screens on July 26.
