Green Arrow seldom misses when he takes aim, and neither does Stephen Amell when it comes to speaking bluntly about joining the DC Universe. The star of the immensely popular CW series, Arrow, had some strong words to offer about possibly reprising the role of the Emerald Archer. And the actor’s brother, Robbie, was also present when Stephen discussed James Gunn’s DCU casting. Stephen said in an exclusive interview with MovieWeb:
“I don’t know. I think it would be really helpful to maybe see like a frame of footage from one of the movies before I decide if I want to be a part of it. Because I loved playing Oliver Queen, and I don’t feel like being in the cinematic universe would validate that character. You know, we did eight seasons, we did 170 episodes, and I wouldn’t change a thing. So, you know, if he calls, great, if he doesn’t, fine!”

- 8
Just so there’s no misunderstanding, at the time of this writing, James Gunn has not offered Amell the role of Green Arrow or any other character, for that matter, in the DCU. Both of the Amell brothers portrayed superheroes in the Arrowverse, although Stephen’s role in the television universe was much larger. Stephen portrayed the titular character of Oliver Queen/Green Arrow during all eight seasons of Arrow, not to mention the many TV crossovers, while Robbie appeared on the CW’s The Flash as Ronnie Raymond and his alter ego Firestorm.
Far Beyond Green Arrow
Arrow, The Flash and the other must-see series comprising the Arrowverse owe a debt of gratitude to the WB and CW’s Tom Welling-led Smallville, which paved the path for the success DC’s superheroes enjoy on television to this day. And much like the forthcoming cancellation of Superman & Lois, Arrow, too, came to an end following its eight-season run. But Stephen Amell will soon be “suiting” up for another heroic gig on TV, albeit one without the ability to fire an arrow with pinpoint precision.
Amell will soon return to the small screen as Ted Black in NBC’s highly anticipated Suits spin-off. Amell will star alongside Josh McDermitt from The Walking Dead in Suits: LA, and Black is described as ““a charismatic force of nature who puts his own needs above others,” according to Variety.
