Cillian Murphy, star of the acclaimed biopic Oppenheimer, recently revealed one accident he had during the production of Christopher Nolan’s latest masterpiece.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Murphy along with co-stars Emily Blunt and Robert Downey Jr. offered a glimpse into the demanding nature of film production. The physical demands of the role were not the only challenges Murphy faced during production. A well-intentioned gift from co-star Blunt led to an unexpected and painful mishap. Concerned about Murphy’s need for rest during the grueling filming schedule, Blunt gifted him a special pillow to aid his sleep.

During one sleepy night, Murphy accidentally struck his head on the bedside table after misjudging the pillow’s position, causing a gash that needed medical attention. Blunt recounted:

“He was really luxuriating in this pillow one night, and he woke up in the middle of the night. This is what he told me the next day. And he went to fluff himself back down in the pillow, misjudged where it was and
smashed his head open on the bedside table
. So, he came to work, and they had to glue his head shut.”

The incident led to an early morning call to makeup artist Luisa Abel, who quickly came to Murphy’s rescue, gluing the wound shut and skillfully covering it up with makeup. Impressively, the makeup was so effective that the injury went undetected in the completed film. Murphy’s experience highlights the unpredictable nature of film production and the behind-the-scenes dedication to ensuring the show goes on, no matter the challenges.
