One of the best action war movies in recent memory is getting a sequel, and it’s fast approaching. According to a new press release, “Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems will release Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions’ Stage 6 Films’ sequel to the critically acclaimed action film Sisu in U.S. theaters on November 21, 2025. The sequel is written and directed by visionary Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander. Jorma Tommila returns in the lead role, starring alongside Richard Brake and Stephen Lang. Petri Jokiranta produced the film through Subzero Film Entertainment, in association with Good Chaos and Mike Goodridge. Gregory Ouanhon and Antonio Salas are executive producers.”
Filmmaker Jalmari Helander is quickly climbing his way to the top of the most exciting action movie directors. It all started with the surprise international hit, 2010’s Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale, which combined action, folk horror, and Christmas to create an unforgettable cult classic. He tried his hand at Hollywood with the underrated 2015 flick Big Game, starring Samuel L. Jackson, Ray Stevenson, and Jim Broadbent. 2022’s Sisu, though, found Helander at the top of his game and proved that he was a modern-day action master. Sisu has a Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score of 94% based on 182 reviews, and a great audience score of 88%.
The original Sisu had its world premiere in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2022, where it received rave reviews. The film went on to screen at the Sitges Film Festival, where it was honored with the awards for Best Feature Film, Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Music. It opened in the top-10 in US theaters and was released worldwide.

One of the Best (And Most Brutal) Action Thrillers in Years Is Streaming Free
It’s like ‘John Wick’ meets ‘Rambo’ with Nazis.
Sisu is set at the end of World War II, when the Nazis have adopted a “scorched-earth” tactic as they leave Finland, decimating every town in their path and taking a handful of captives with them. The film follows one soldier, Aatami Korpi, who was known as “The Immortal” during the war because of his incredible combat and survival skills. When he comes across a treasure trove of gold in the wilderness, Aatami tries to make his way home despite the many evacuating Nazis he is sure to come across. MovieWeb’s review of Sisu noted:
“Once the action in SISU starts, it becomes an all-out gore fest. Between knives to the head and Aatami using Nazi soldiers as human shields, it almost seems like each action sequence strives to outdo the one that precedes it. Naturally, any action film that soars this close to the sun will ask of its audiences a considerable suspension of disbelief, but there’s something satisfying about all of it — he’s killing Nazis after all. Indeed, there’s a sleekness to the way Helander captures Aatami’s movements, following him as he weaves through the Nazi platoon, making quick work of the soldiers. It is, at once, brutal and balletic, not unlike the currently reigning one-man-army champion, John Wick.”
