Controversial actor Kevin Spacey will star as The Devil himself in the upcoming thriller, The Contract. While it may be questionable PR, Spacey will star as The Devil for Italian filmmaker Massimiliano Caroletti, with the project reportedly the first of three movies in a series (via THR). The two-time Oscar winner continues his attempt to resurrect his acting career after largely staying away from the public eye in the wake of the #MeToo movement and several accusations of sexual misconduct against the actor which were unearthed.
The Contract has now wrapped filming, which took place in Rome, and is being helmed by Massimo Paolucci (All in One Day, Photoshock). The thriller is based on an idea by Caroletti, which has been scripted by his wife, Eva Henger, and will be produced by Tm Entertainment and Sandro Lazzerini.
While plot details remain unknown at this time, it has been revealed that Spacey will star as The Devil, aka, Satan, aka Lucifer, aka Beelzebub, with the project taking inspiration from the likes of 1987’s Angel Heart, which stars Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro and follows a private investigator who is tasked with tracking down a singer named Johnny Favorite, and 1997’s The Devil’s Advocate starring Keanu Reeves as a hotshot lawyer who is given a big opportunity by Al Pacino’s powerful law firm.
Kevin Spacey Is Slowly Edging His Way Back Into the Limelight
Spacey has always denied the allegations that were leveled against him and was acquitted by a jury of sexual assault charges at Southwark crown court in London last year. The actor, who is best known for American Beauty, Seven, The Usual Suspects, and Baby Driver, returned to acting in last year’s action thriller, Control, which sees Spacey starring as the villainous The Voice, a mysterious man who remotely hijacks the car of a high-profile British politician.
At the end of last year, Spacey also gave us all the Christmas present we didn’t ask for when he reprized the role of House of Cards’ Francis J. “Frank” Underwood, appearing in a video with conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson. During the bizarre interview, Spacey (or Frank) took aim at Netflix for their handling of his role in the House of Cards series amid the allegations that had been made against him.
“So, it is bizarre they decided to publicly cut ties with me on allegations alone, allegations that have now been proven false. Because I don’t think there’s any question. Netflix exists because of me. I put them on the map, and they tried to put me in the ground.”
10 Best Actors Who Played the Devil in Movies, Ranked
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world he doesn’t exist. These actors brought him to life though with great performances.
Further efforts to see his name once again up in lights, Spacey recently booked his first comic book convention appearance…much to the displeasure of many movie and TV fans. Organizers at the time announced that Spacey would be signing autographs and taking photographs with fans at the Mad Monster Party 2024 event, which took place last month.
Spacey’s next project, Peter Five Eight, is due to be released on March 22, 2024, and follows a seemingly glamorous real estate agent who is revealed to be an unhinged alcoholic with a dark secret when a charismatic man in black shows up one day at the behest of his shadowy boss.
