What Strange New Worlds Season 2’s Episode Titles Mean
Perhaps the most anticipated event in Strange New Worlds season 2 is the crossover episode with Star Trek: Lower Decks, which will be episode 7, “Those Old Scientists.” The title is a callback to a joke in Lower Decks‘ season 1 finale, “No Small Parts,” when Commander Jack Ransom (Jerry O’Connell) referred to “TOS” as “Those Old Scientists,” a sly wink that the abbreviation for Star Trek: The Original Series, is offhandedly used in canon but with a different meaning that refers to Captain Kirk (William Shatner) and his USS Enterprise crew. The crossover episode that brings Lower Decks‘ Ensigns Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) to Strange New Worlds will be episode 7 of season 2, which was confirmed by director Jonathan Frakes.
The other Strange New Worlds season 2 episode titles don’t reveal too much that is significant except, perhaps, for episode 10, “Hegemony.” The Gorn are major villains in Strange New Worlds and their civilization is called the Gorn Hegemony. This strongly infers that the Gorn will be back in the Strange New World season 2 finale. Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 2, “Ad Astra per Aspera” is a Latin phrase meaning “to the stars through difficulties,” which could be the origin story of one of the Enterprise crew members. Strange New Worlds episode 8, “Under the Cloak of War,” ominously hints at another conflict brewing that Captain Pike and the Enterprise may need to prevent. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds also recently released a clip of Number One’s (Rebecca Romijn) trial from season 2, and that likely will take place early in the season, perhaps in the premiere, “The Broken Circle,” which hints at Captain Pike’s fractured crew when season 2 begins.
