I’ve always loved The Real Housewives of Potomac, but we are almost at the end of Season 8 and it is boring as hell. I mean boring to the point where I am choosing to clean my kitchen, and it’s on in the background. I have loved watching Gizelle Bryant say goodbye to her daughter as she sends her off to college. The scenes were heartwarming, but the rest of the women have really let me down.
Honestly, I keep scratching my head, thinking, what are we even watching? The Wendy Osefo and Nneka Ihim drama is complete nonsense. Robyn Dixon is trying to pretend her marriage is legit when it is far from perfect, and frankly, I miss Katie Rost and Monique Samuels. Bravo seems to be at a loss on how to update the franchise when the answer is staring them right in the face.
Why I Miss Katie
Season 1: Katie started off strong, but I’ll admit she kind of got annoying as the season progressed. But Season 4? Katie was an absolute beast. I can’t help but question why Bravo didn’t bring her back for Season 5. I miss Katie, and she was right about almost everything when it came to the women and their drama. Personally, we should be calling her Katie ROAST. The Potomac resident could R-E-A-D her co-stars, and not in a drunken, low-budget way.
Katie was witty, educated, and used tongue in cheek humor on another level. She was a bit smarter than your average housewife, and it was hard for some to understand her reality TV gift. I always thought she would have given Kenya Moore a run for her money. I would much rather have Katie over a confused Dr. Wendy any day. I found her transparency refreshing. Everyone shouldn’t be pigeonholed into having the same goals.
Katie the Savior
So, frankly, we need Katie as a full-time cherry blossom. Between her chaotic life, which included addiction, custody battles, and a questionable love life, Katie supplied it all! I feel like we keep forgetting as viewers that Katie has asked multiple times to be brought back on the series in a now-deleted post writing, “I would like to issue a public apology for statements I made that weren’t cool in the past to Andy Cohen. And I do want a job. And I swear I will totally behave.”
Whatever has happened in the past, The Real Housewives of Potomac needs Katie back mainly because she always has something major going on in her life. I believe if she is mentally in a good place, she should be given a second chance. At the very least, she would give the rest of these girls a run for their money.
Season 8 Is a Dud
The storylines are whack. Why Wendy is making it her life’s mission to bring Nneka down is beyond me. I really was looking forward to them sharing their Nigerian heritage together with viewers, but instead, we are watching Wendy act as if her shit doesn’t stink and feeding her mother lines for the cameras. Robyn is clearly having a time with Jaundering Juan Dixon and his multiple alleged cheating scandals, yet she doesn’t want to talk about it.
Candiace Dillard Bassett is refusing to film with half the cast. So I gotta ask, how does a reality TV show still function when most of the cast refuse to speak to one another? Season 8 feels bloated yet empty. Even though there seems to be a lot crammed in, there are no real storylines. Dare I say it feels like the entire cast is meandering through these episodes.
Bravo is going to have an extremely hard time if the OGs continue to become complacent and the newbies don’t find their own footing. RHOP Season 8 feels more like a casting mishap than a group of friends.
So bring back Katie! Bring back Monique! Anything and anyone that will give this franchise a much-needed kick in the butt, because cherry blossom season is almost over.
The Real Housewives of Potomac is available to stream on Peacock.
