Jomboy Media Shares Painful Baseball Moment That Sparks Debate

Jomboy Media shared an excerpt that made cringes everywhere, especially among sympathetic agony. It tweeted ‘cup check’ and gave a link to the video, and oh wow, did that video deliver. The bad aspects of baseball included, well, the player being hit in the very area you generally would be touched. A lot has been said online, and a lot could be said.

Reactions ranged from horror to laughter to really serious takes on baseball. Rachael said it best-the quote: ‘Ride I in peace,’ is almost the catchphrase. With every bit of trauma he could manage was Joe Guy: ‘Not wearing a cup at first base is the stupidest thing I ever heard. I did it one time when I was nine and I never stepped foot on a baseball diamond ever again without one on.’ Oof. That just got too close to home.

At that moment, the real contest about whether the player was wearing a cup began between Skater Operator and monsieur resistor. Skater Operator was doing a poll comment sounding, ‘This pole is broken’, while monsieur resistor retaliates with, ‘lol no cup wins at 80%? getting hit in the nards, even with a cup on STILL HURTS REALLY BAD LMAO I WOULD WISH THAT PAIN ON NO ONE’. The passion. The energy. Shared trauma. It was a beautiful thing.

Then Bill C., CFP®, came through with the more technical correction: ‘Correction: Failed cup check.’ Cold. Accurate. Todd Osborne had a more philosophical way of saying it, ‘Nobody ever deserves this but that defense at first base was brutal, making the outcome sadly predictable.’ Deep.

There was a considerable amount of appreciation of sound effects, with jonebize noting ‘The sounds effects lol OOOOMMF 😫.’ And we shall never forget Xeralt’s poetic ‘Plums are not safe in baseball today!’ True wordsmith.

Some comments were darker, e.g. vdaddy1969 comparing it to ‘the guy falling out of the stands,’ which… eek. But then again there was the isolated Aaron Judge fan account popping into the replies saying, ‘Hello, It’s Aaron Judge here.’ Sure, Jan.

What was the funniest part? Feldman clearing her throat after the replay, thanks to Trey. That would nearly break the internet. And then the classic ‘Gotta wear the cup!!!’ because sometimes the simplest advice is the best.

This tweet served as a masterclass on the unifying powers of one very excruciating incident for bringing in laughter, debate, and shared misery-in all corners of the internet. Team ‘always wear a cup’ and team ‘why would you never not?’ could fight, scream, or argue-it doesn’t even matter, really. Because deep down in the hearts of everyone, baseball is a dangerous game.
