Wintour was to present the Fashion Icon Award to the British supermodel. However, while introducing Campbell, the Vogue editor-in-chief said she was presenting it to someone who is “often late.” Samira Nasr, editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar, later took over the duty and presented the award to Campbell. During her speech, the model alluded to Wintour as the “other lady,” stating how she would have opted to receive the honor from Nasr instead.
This war of words has seemingly left Wintour with a grudge. The source explained that Campbell “shot herself in the stiletto” with her remarks. The insider further expressed how the model can’t expect to walk the Met Gala red carpet after throwing shade at the editor-in-chief, who is the primary host of the event and oversees the same every year.
