Armie Hammer Shares Poster for a Safdie Bros. Movie That Isn’t Happening

Armie Hammer has stirred up some confusion on social media after sharing a poster for a new movie directed by the Safdie brothers, the filmmaking duo behind Uncut Gems and Good Time, with an important (but not publicized) catch: the project is not real. The Man from U.N.C.L.E. actor posted a cryptic image on his Instagram account teasing a collaboration with Benny and Josh Safdie for an upcoming film titled Persona Non Grata, in which he appears to have a starring role, and hinted at a Fall 2026 release in the caption.

The comments section of the Instagram post (seen below), which Hammer shared on his grid and further promoted via his stories, was immediately flooded with messages from his followers celebrating the news and congratulating the actor on his next role after a three-year absence from feature films. However, reps for both Benny and Josh Safdie have confirmed to Variety that the movie does not exist, meaning that the poster for Persona Non Grata is completely fake and the reason for the seemingly random gimmick is unknown.

A Decade Later, Henry Cavill’s Most Underrated Movie Still Hasn’t Gotten a Sequel

Despite being a fun action movie, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. starring Henry Cavill hasn’t gotten a sequel yet, which may be due to a number of factors.

Hammer, who previously starred in films like The Social Network and Call Me by Your Name, appears to be manifesting an acting comeback after his career was derailed four years ago following troubling sexual assault allegations and accusatory claims of a sexual fetish for cannibalism. He was dropped by his talent agency, WME, and out of the spotlight for quite some time before returning to screens last year opposite William H. Macy in Frontier Crucible. He is also slated to appear in Uwe Boll’s Citizen Vigilante, now that the actor is picking up work again. In fact, his circumstances have changed so much that he told Christina Pazsitzy and Tom Segura on the most recent episode of their podcast, Your Mom’s House, that he is “turning jobs down” due to his increasingly busy schedule. Hammer explained:

“The worm is turning. It takes time. It’s slow, but generally now the conversation when my name comes up with people in the industry is, ‘Man, that guy got f**ked.’ And that feels really good. It’s really encouraging […] I’m turning jobs down. Yeah, my dance card is getting pretty full. By the way, that first job that I turned down after four years of this s**t… I mean, it was the best feeling I’ve ever had.”
