Good Omens Season 2 Title Sequence Revealed

Good Omens creator Neil Gaiman shares the show’s season 2 title sequence, praising the quirky new animation and proclaiming it an improvement on season 1’s. Based on the best-selling novel Gaiman co-authored with the late Terry Pratchett, Good Omens was initially conceived as a limited series and debuted on Prime Video in 2019. However, following the positive buzz and critical acclaim generated by season 1, Amazon later renewed the show in June 2021. Set to feature the return of David Tennant’s Crowley and Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale, all six episodes of Good Omens season 2 are currently scheduled to begin streaming on July 28.

Posting on Tumblr, Gaiman shares season 2’s updated titles created by Peter Anderson Studios, saying the new sequence is “madder than the S1 titles.

Following on from season 1’s opening titles, this new clip features an eclectic blend of animation styles as Tennant’s and Sheen’s characters travel through shifting landscapes including the pits of hell, a war-torn Earth and the greater cosmos. The clip also reveals the first episode’s title, “The Arrival.”

Good Omens Season 2’s Story Remains A Mystery

While Good Omens season 1 followed many of the same story beats as the original book, audiences have little idea what Gaiman has planned for season 2. While Gaiman and Pratchett had initially outlined a sequel for their 1990 collaboration that was intended to be titled 668—The Neighbor of the Beast, the former has previously admitted those ideas will not form the basis for Good Omens season 2. Instead, Gaiman has teased they might inspire a potential “Season 3 if we get there.”

With no previously established story to draw upon, and season 1 already covering the entirety of the original book, there is little indication of what route season 2 might take. What is known, however, is it will pick up after Crowley and Aziraphale succeeded in averting Armageddon and finding themselves destined to continue their unlikely friendship on Earth. While Benedict Cumberbatch and Frances McDormand are not returning for season 2, several new characters will be introduced, including the gullible angel Muriel (Quelin Sepulveda) and Crowley’s demonic successor Shax (Miranda Richardson).

With still several more weeks before Good Omens returns to screens, keen-eyed viewers will likely be pouring over this new title sequence for additional hints about season 2’s plot. Richly detailed, and delightfully eccentric, the clip offers a lot of potential fodder for eager audiences to begin theorizing. Moreover, with the planned release date looming ever closer, hopefully it will not be too much longer before Amazon follow up this latest tease with an official Good Omens season 2 trailer.
