This time, though, it has the added benefit of being based on a true story, but its real strength is not being another story that relies on audiences being put through misery and endless strings of terrible events before getting a resolution that leaves them still feeling a little down. Nonnas instead drives its story with a show of camaraderie, friendship, and a relaxed and joyous energy that just isn’t seen enough in mainstream movies.

Yes, the movie does also deal with grief, but not in a way that brings anyone down. Instead, it inspires, delights, and is clearly resonating with audiences after debuting at the top of Netflix’s competitive movie chart. It probably won’t be too long before it is replaced by something much less worthy or at least something filled with apocalyptic prophecies and endless death, so maybe now is the time to forget about your troubles and click on Nonnas on Netflix. There could be worse ways to spend an afternoon, and you would clearly be in good company.
