A pretty village has taken the number one spot in a list of the most tranquil villages and towns in the UK – and it’s one you won’t want to miss. If there’s one thing that Brits love, it’s a bit of peace and quiet.
Thankfully, across Britain, there are lots of places where you can grab a slice of tranquillity. Indeed Country Living said Plockton, in Scotland, is one of the best peaceful areas to visit – and it’s an underrated destination.
It said: “Coming in at the top of the list is Plockton — a tranquil coastal village in Scotland. Known as the ‘The Jewel of the Highlands‘, it’s a breathtaking place to come and unwind.”
Plockton is home to a beautiful harbour that’s a perfect place to enjoy the peace and quiet. It is a picturesque lakeside village situated just an hour by car from the famous Isle of Skye. And despite its breathtaking landscapes it is often overlooked by visitors and not nearly as crowded as the tourist hotspots in Scotland.
One visitor on Tripadvisor said: “The harbour is outstanding and breathtaking, it must be the prettiest village I’ve seen. Surrounded by mountains – amazing.”
Another wrote: “Stayed 3 nights in Plockton Harbour, one of the most tranquil and beautiful places I’ve ever been.
“The views out of the harbour are breathtaking, the local hotels and pubs all seem excellent and there are a few good walks in the area.
“A little off the beaten track but if you’re in the area visiting Skye then stopping off in Plockton is a must.”
If you’re wondering where exactly Plockton is or how to get there, you’ll find the area around five hours northwest of Edinburgh, it borders the beautiful Loch Carron.
According to Visit Plockton, the area has been used as a set for numerous film and television productions, the most well known being the BBC’s ‘Hamish Macbeth’ series.
It also says that Plockton has carefully preserved its heritage, while offering outstanding hospitality.
Despite not being a tourist hotspot, you’ll find a range of accommodation and restaurants which are famous for their seafood as well as live traditional music.
If you’re looking for a peaceful spot to enjoy a break this summer then look no further than this unique part of Scotland that leaves its visitors in awe.
