Letters to the Editor — June 3, 2023

The Issue: President Biden’s fall on stage at an Air Force Academy commencement this week.

The thought of octogenarian Joe Biden seeking a second term as president after taking another fall at the Air Force Academy commencement ceremony is the biggest political joke since “defund the police” (“An age old problem,” June 2).

And that one had me rolling on the floor.

Even if he was 100% healthy and in the absolute prime of his life, how could this president, whose economic record is reminiscent of President Jimmy Carter’s misery index of the 1970s, not get wiped out in the 2024 election? Remember the licking President Ronald Reagan administered to Carter in 1980?

For someone his age, Biden is in great shape. He unfortunately tripped over a sandbag. A black sandbag!

Once you get to a certain age, you are not as agile as a younger person. Wait ’til you are at that stage in your life.

This has nothing to do with mental acuity, which he still has (compared to other people who are not much younger). At least when he exercises, he’s not just playing golf.

The unsightly spectacle of President Biden’s most recent fall has unfortunately become an alarmingly recurring thing.

It is quite obvious that he is being negatively impacted by his declining mental and physical health, as well as his age.

The fact that he tries to compensate for this by zipping to and from events to prove his virility exacerbates the optics of his burgeoning unsoundness.

The physical and mental rigors of being the United States president are extremely taxing and require optimum physical and mental stamina.

Any honest, reasonable person can see that Biden is incapable of meeting these demands.

To try to prop up someone to be president of the United States for political gain, in spite of obvious declining health, is a monumental disservice to the country and to Biden.

Remember back when Gerald Ford was president? Constant jokes were made about all the times Ford would trip over this and that and crash on the ground. Folks laughed about it.

I don’t recall people calling out Ford’s mental or physical state.

Biden took a hard fall at the Air Force Academy graduation after tripping over a small black sandbag.

The Associated Press reported that Biden had “turned to jog back toward his seat.” I watched the tape of the incident, and not only was the president not jogging, he was shuffling at the slowest gait imaginable. Why would a “respected” news organization cover for the president? It is because the media no longer report facts. They are trying to paint him as healthy and vigorous.

President Biden will be 82 at the end of this term and is seeking another, which would end at 86. At this point, he is not up to the rigors of the job, either physically or cognitively. With Vice President Kamala Harris in the wings, God help the United States.

Biden may be unsteady on his feet, but he is not unsteady when it comes to governing.

His administration has been responsible for negotiating many impressive bipartisan accomplishments — most recently the successful debt-limit bill that helped the United States to avert default.

Some presidents never trip and fall on the floor. They may be younger or healthier than Biden is.

But they don’t know how to get both parties to work together. Biden and his team have succeeded in making government more bipartisan.

Paul Feiner, Greenburgh

Based on coverage of Biden’s fall earlier this week, the pattern of partisan journalism remains evident. Since this story is not flattering for the president, the left-wing news outlets felt obliged to ignore it.

But if Donald Trump so much as lets out a belch, those same publications put it in the headlines. The liberal double-standard marches on.
