Cruise guests warned of ‘major unspoken rule’ that ‘may ruin your holiday’ | Cruise | Travel

Cruise guests will need to follow the rules in each destination they visit but there are also some rules to follow onboard.

Yasmin Pekel, cruise expert and CEO of Blue Cruise, has warned passengers of a “major unspoken rule”.

She said: “One of the major unspoken rules of cruising is that you cannot reserve lounge chairs.

“All guests want to be able to use the pool space, meaning all chairs are first come, first served.

“If you leave your items across several chairs, it is likely that a staff member will have a discussion with you.”

‘Chair hogging’ or saving pool loungers is a major annoyance for other passengers and is frowned upon by most cruise lines.

Yasmin added: “Other guests could also get annoyed, potentially leading to verbal altercations, which may ruin your holiday.”

Guests should only put their items on chairs they intend to use or the cruise line may remove their things.

Yasmin added: “A cruise is a holiday, but you still need to be considerate of the fact that other people are here to relax and get some sleep.

“Making noise late into the night, early in the morning or being excessively noisy in places that are for everyone, such as the pool, could get you in trouble.”

Although some cruise ships have more of a party atmosphere, guests could still get in trouble if they make too much noise.

Crew will usually give passengers a warning if they’re being too loud but if the behaviour continues, they could end up in trouble.

If the passengers are being loud because they are drunk, they could be banned from using the ship’s bars.

In extreme cases, guests could be banned from the cruise line or have to leave the ship at the next port.
