Pierce Brosnan sneaks in a cheeky James Bond reference in the trailer for his new bank robbery comedy, The Out-laws. The British actor gained popularity with the 1980s NBC detective comedy Remington Steele before shooting to international stardom as Timothy Dalton’s replacement for the James Bond franchise. Brosnan completed four successful entries in the spy-action film series, concluding with Die Another Day alongside Halle Berry, Toby Stephens, and Rosamund Pike.
Workaholics and Pitch Perfect star Adam Devine leads Netflix’s The Out-Laws trailer as affable bank manager Owen Browning with Brosnan and Ellen Barkin portraying his future in-laws Billy and Lily McDermott, a couple who live double lives as infamous international bank thieves.
After an awkward introduction and a bit too much to drink, Owen inadvertently gives the criminal couple the passcode to a vault containing millions of dollars. Stuffed with comedy, action, and a slick James Bond reference specifically calling out Brosnan’s tenure, The Out-Laws trailer sets audiences up for a hilarious thrill ride.
What to Expect from The Out-Laws
At first, The Out-Laws trailer teases a premise of a goofy yet lovable character attempting to charm their romantic partner’s hard-to-please in-laws. However, Evan Turner and Ben Zazove’s script flips the conceit on its head, setting the romantic comedy in a world of bank robberies and international criminal conspiracies.
Directed by Tyler Spindel, The Out-Laws stars The Vampire Diaries‘ star Nina Dobrev as Parker McDermott, Guardians of the Galaxy Yondu actor Michael Rooker as Agent Oldham, and Julie Hagerty with Richard Kind as Owen’s parents Margie and Neil Browning respectively. Devine’s Workaholics costar Blake Anderson makes an appearance as Cousin RJ with Get Out‘s breakout star Lil Rel Howery portraying Owen’s security colleague Tyree.
Although The Out-Laws trailer gives much of the plot to the audience, there is still plenty of room for twists and turns as Owen switches roles from Bank Manager to bank thief. Parker’s role in the film remains in question regarding the knowledge of her parents’ criminal history or if she specifically chose Owen as a romantic partner to allow her parents access to the vault. Audiences will have their questions answered when The Out-Laws premieres on Netflix July 7.
