Sami Zayn Expresses Disappointment Over Chant Not Catching On In American Crowds

Sami Zayn himself had his few nostalgic words about a certain chant used by some of his matches, which he wishes had more presence in the American scene. The post featured some video clips from a match where a huge crowd was urged into the chant, surely bringing back the memories. That moment of drama, often witnessed under universal enthusiasm, according to Zayn, has somehow failed to percolate down to American audience.

The clip, chaotic as it is, seems to display an incredibly joyous reminder of the crowd enjoying themselves at the time. Zayn wrote: “Anniversary. One year ago today. I really wish this chant had caught on with American crowds as well.” Just that one fleeting masterpiece shot the floodgates open for commentators to compare wrestling crowds worldwide.

One user said plainly, “US crowds are shit compared to European crowds.” Many more people rallied behind that crude statement. One person went on to explain: “Asking American crowds to act like us is like getting blood out of a stone. US crowds suck will always have and will continue to do so, just enjoy our fans when you guys are over here.” It soon became a heated discussion on the differences between international wrestling audiences and American wrestling audiences, with many emphasizing the lack of originality within U.S. chants. “All the yanks know is one syllable words like WHUT!? and YEET,” said another fan.

However, not everybody took against the American crowds. Some writers did jump in to defend the stateside energy, but very few stuck around to remain as dissenting voices, all giving preference to the creativity and volume that come from European and UK audiences. One fan chimed in: “UK crowds are the best,” and another comment said: “These chants originate from football crowds. Do more UK shows and you’ll hear it a lot.” The merging of football culture with wrestling chants was a highly cited argument that pointed toward sports fan influence on international wrestling doctrine.

The discussion saw much siding with Zayn. “Was in that crowd Sami, we love you here,” one said, while another stated, “In a year or so, you are going to be world champion my boy.” So, with nostalgia, critique, and encouraging words, the comment section evolved into a lively one, proving once again that wrestling fans maybe just as passionate about the crowd experience as they are about the action inside the ring.

Known for his charisma and ability to connect with the audiences, Sami Zayn has always been an advocate for events in which fans are involved at very high levels. As such, the post has served to focus the attention on the behavior of audience and wrestler-in-action while also reminding the audience that they are critical to the product that is professional wrestling. Will American crowds start coming with those fresh chants or bring back old ones? For now, with new chants in the past already set by the international scene, stay tuned.
