The drama got serious in Season 2 of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. An ill-fated trip to the Bahamas caused Chandi Dayle to take a leave of absence, and KayDianna MacKenzie took over her leadership responsibilities.
At the end of the season, Chandi returned to the group to a mixed reaction. But, we learned that KayDianna wound up leaving the squad after a suspension from the team. So, what exactly caused all of the drama? We’re here to break it all down for you.
What happened between DCC’s Chandi and KayDianna?
During the Bahamas trip in Season 2, Chandi broke a major DCC rule by inviting a guy back to her hotel room.
“In the Bahamas, we were having a great old time. We were doing all the team things,” KayDianna recalled.
“There were certain nights that she [Chandi] wouldn’t come and hang out,” she continued. “It was like, ‘Maybe she’s not feeling good. It’s fine.’ It was just like little, small things that were weird, but you would never pick up on that something big is going down.”
Chandi took a break from the team to address her mental health, but KayDianna’s transition to taking her spot wasn’t smooth. She wound up ranting about the situation in a TikTok live, and of course, that didn’t bode well with the DCC leadership.
“Bahamas happened. I stepped into leadership. I definitely didn’t feel supported,” KayDianna recalled, adding that she just “felt like a body.”
She continued, “It was as if Chandi got the perks of being a first leader and I got the responsibility part of it. And when all this went down, I was confused. My teammates were confused. We just didn’t know what was gonna happen. I was on TikTok Live. People ask about the Bahamas, people ask about Chandi.”
According to KayDianna, she never called out Chandi by name in her TikToks. However, it didn’t matter. The DCC suspended her from the squad.
“I got a call from staff. They said that I was under investigation for being a bully and harassing. I was officially suspended at that point,” KayDianna recalled. “I just told myself that I needed to take myself out of the organization and that I needed to respect myself.”
With that, KayDianna exited the DCC. She said it felt “sad” because she didn’t even attend the team’s year-end banquet. Instead, they just went on to celebrate a 35-person squad instead of the original 36.
“I still wanted to celebrate this year,” KayDianna admitted. “Put staff aside, put everything that went down aside, like, we’re there for each other, and I just wish I could be there to celebrate with them.”
Ultimately, KayDianna wasn’t the only person to leave the team. Although Chandi returned at the end of the season, she wound up leaving the team, too. Never a dull moment in cheerleading.
America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders is streaming on Netflix.
