Kelly Clarkson threw yet another major hint that a Dolly Parton song could be going into her Vegas residency, and already everyone is taking sides. The singer posted an Instagram story about maybe doing a Dolly cover for the Studio Sessions shows and asked followers which song they wanted to hear, and let me tell you: the response was deafening.

This next image is over-the-top: Caesars Palace glowing with billboards promoting both Clarkson’s residency and a much-anticipated Dolly Parton show. It’s pure Vegas gold in a way! Now the whole world is tilting toward these two musical diamonds mixing in just the right way.
This is where it gets juicy. Clarkson didn’t get lighthearted suggestions; instead she had a full-on heated debate broken up by an entrance from none other than the queen of country herself. Dolly Parton mysteriously chimed in with a direct, convincing vote: ‘I think you should sing I Will Always Love You because I think you do one of the best versions of that song that I have ever heard… Whitney and I would both be proud.’
Yep, that happened.
If Dolly’s endorsement still didn’t nail it down, then the rest of the internet might as well have. Hotels, podcasts, and fans alike were all suggesting Clarkson to do it, with an almost unanimous answer in favor of ‘I Will Always Love You.’ Even Caesars Palace gave it a tease, ‘We’re lovin’ this plan ❤️,’ in full enthusiasm at the prospect of this event.
Of course, not everybody was easy enough to walk down that path. A handful rebelled with other suggestions on Dolly hits: ‘Jolene,’ ‘Here You Come Again,’ and ‘Coat of Many Colors.’ One bold fan even pitched the most unhinged mash-up ever of ‘Breakaway x I Will Always Love You,’ which…sure, why not? Though not everyone was willing to entertain the idea. ‘Those are two completely different songs though. Wouldn’t make much sense?’ one user clapped back. The original idea-pitcher, however, stood firm: ‘It’s ok if you don’t see the vision because I do.’
Another went down in history as a nostalgia bomb, reminding Clarkson of that killer cover she did for ‘Hard Candy Christmas’, and urging her to make that Christmas-in-July moment happen. And honestly? That might be the dark-horse choice.
But let’s get real here for a moment: when your mother herself requests that you sing HER song and half of the Internet joins the call, you’ve almost certainly gotta go with it. Clarkson hasn’t confirmed anything, but her reaction to Dolly is being called “priceless”: “Well now I guess there’s no arguing with Ms. Dolly Parton herself! I Will Always Love You it is! 😂”
Will it happen? Vegas may just have to wait and see. But one that, if Clarkson does decide to belt that one out, it’s gonna be a losing situation for everyone in the room…and honestly, the rest of us too.
Now the only question left is…which one gets the honor? Because fans are already digging through their ticket dates to see if they are going to be one of the lucky few on the premiere night of this rendition.
