Jet2 baggage allowance and hand luggage rules

Ultimately, the best way to make sure you don’t face excess baggage fees is by understanding exactly what luggage allowance is associated with your ticket type. While passengers with flight-only bookings will likely have to pay extra to take a checked suitcase, those travelling on a Jet2holidays package holiday or a Jet2CityBreaks package deal will likely have hold luggage included in the price.

Jet2 hand luggage for flight-only bookings

All Jet2 passengers are entitled to one piece of hand luggage free of charge, however, luggage:

  • Must weigh no more than 10kg
  • Must measure no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including any wheels and handles

Any baggage heavier or larger than this may need to be checked into the aircraft hold for an additional charge. Passengers can also bring one personal item onboard for free, such as a laptop bag or a handbag.

All hand luggage is carried in the cabin at the discretion of Jet2. In some cases, particularly on full flights, cabin space may need to be freed up by placing some cabin bags into the hold. If this is the case, it will be done at no extra charge to the passenger.

Passengers hoping to take a checked bag will be required to purchase these. You can book up to three 22kg hold bags per person, per flight by paying the applicable charges. Charges will vary depending on the flight and route you are taking.

  • Checked baggage prices start at £10, but are on average £21 each way.
  • Customers can save as much as 50 percent by paying for their hold luggage upfront rather than waiting until they are at the airport.
  • Jet2 does not allow individual hold bags that weigh more than 32kg.
  • A charge of £12 per kilogram will apply for baggage that exceeds the total permitted weight allowance.

Passengers who book a Jet2 package holiday through Jet2holidays or Jet2CityBreaks are entitled to a generous hand and hold luggage allowance as part of their booking:

  • All Jet2holidays passengers benefit from a 22kg hold baggage item each
  • 10kg hand luggage is included as standard (excluding infants) but must measure no more than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm including any wheels or handles.

Passengers also have the option of adding on a second 22kg bag at an additional charge if required.

Choose the right bag for your Jet2 flight

Once you are aware of the luggage allowance specified for your ticket, it’s time to make sure your bag fits Jet2’s size restrictions. You can do this by measuring the length, height and width of your suitcase.

Picking a soft-shell luggage item can also free up some additional weight to make sure you don’t exceed the allowance.

Jet2 flight-only passengers who want to book a hold luggage item or Jet2holidays passengers who want to purchase an additional 22kg hold baggage item can save as much as 50 percent when they purchase online.

The cost of a suitcase varies depending on your flight, dates, and destination, however, on average an additional bag purchased in advance is approximately £21. If left until you arrive at the airport, the cost of paying for a checked bag can shoot up.

If you do want to pay for a suitcase, the best thing to do is purchase this online in advance. You can do this by visiting the Manage My Booking section of the Jet2 website.

Although infants are not entitled to their own baggage allowance, customers who have a 22kg hold bag included in their booking will automatically have an extra 10kg added to this allowance, free of charge.

This entitles adults travelling with an infant to extra space for any additional items or supplies they may need. This is applicable for each infant-and-adult pairing on a booking.

However, if your baggage item weighs more than 32kg, this will be carried subject to availability at the airline’s discretion. You may also need to pay an excess baggage fee of £12 per additional kilogram.

Make sure your cabin bag stays with you

On particularly busy flights, Jet2 may need to place some cabin bags into the hold. Although bags checked in this situation are done so for free, if you don’t want to be separated from your bag, it’s a good idea to secure your spot in an overhead locker.

Subject to availability, you can pre-book Guaranteed Cabin Luggage for an extra charge. Jet2 customers who purchase this service will not be asked to put hand baggage in the hold, unless it exceeds the weight and size requirements set out by the airline.

A Guaranteed Cabin Luggage item can be purchased by visiting the Manage My Booking section of the Jet2 website.

Beat liquid rules with airport tip

Boots offer a Click-and-Collect airport service allowing passengers to order all of their toiletries and travel essentials online to pick up at the airport after security.

Given that the Click-and-Collect pick-up points in the departure lounge are after security, passengers can order and collect full-size toiletries such as sun cream or make-up, without being held to the 100ml container rule.

The hack can even help you get around your airline’s hand luggage weight and size restrictions. Although the majority of airlines set out a specific size and weight allowance for your hand luggage, many allow passengers to bring onboard a bag of items purchased from the departure lounge or duty-free.

You can read our  for a step-by-step guide to the process, as well as how it helped to beat luggage restrictions.

Save space with packing cubes

Packing cubes have been a long-time and are an efficient way to not only save space but also to stay organised on your travels.

Cabin crew member Rhiannon Corbett shared a video of her top packing tips to her Instagram page, and she highlighted packing cubes as one of her must-have organisational items.

“I like to use pouches for my clothes and shoes as it kept everything organised and nothing moves around while travelling,” she explained.

Given that these pouches are made of fabric, they can be easily folded up and stored, or taken with you for any purchases you make while abroad.

Use Ziploc hack to make the most of your space

There are all manner of hand luggage packing hacks online which claim they can help passengers beat baggage restrictions and avoid excess fees. One “game-changer” hack was shared by TikTok mum @muddlingthroughmummy, who explained how the kitchen staple can also help to keep your luggage organised.

The mum uses large Ziploc bags which can be purchased on Amazon for under £10. She recommends arranging outfits into piles, folding them, and then placing each one into an individual Ziploc bag.

Then, push all of the air out before sealing them. This works a lot like a vacuum pack bag, condensing the space the items take up.

As an added bonus, the hack also helps with organising your outfits. Simply use a Sharpie to write on each bag.
