James Gunn has revealed a little more about the current state of casting on Superman: Legacy, and this time he has gone into much more detail than just a one-line Twitter post. While appearing on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, the subject of the internet’s biggest question came up – when will we know who is playing the new DCU’s Superman?
Gunn obviously is not ready to reveal that nugget just yet, but he did go into a lot of detail about why he is not getting into discussions about casting rumors, and how the many “nonsense” stories on the internet can make it hard for actors who are reported to have been testing out for the role. He said:
“Now that we’ve kind of done a lot of auditions, we’re narrowing it down. We’re not done yet. By the way — there’s a lot of stories out there about who we’re auditioning and all these screen tests. I’m just saying it’s not all true, that’s for sure. There’s things in there that are completely false, but I I can’t go out there and say ‘Oh this isn’t true, and this isn’t true’ without going through everything. And by the way, it’s not the audience’s — at this point, I don’t think it’s the business of anyone who is screen testing for a role. That is a very private thing. Journalists have to do what they have to do. That’s their job. They’re trying to get hits. They find out some things from agencies, but here’s the problem — is that they find out some things from agencies that might be true. They find out other things from agencies, which are agencies pushing their clients and trying to pump it up, like ‘I think my client is testing!’ There’s a lot of nonsense that comes out of it, and that’s difficult, because there’s people out there that are supposedly testing that aren’t, and that must be difficult for them as people. And there’s other people that might be testing… and I think it’s a private thing between me and them.”
Who Will Lead the DCU in Superman: Legacy?
That is the question that everyone wants an answer to and the entire internet is speculating wildly on. Along with the upcoming casting of Marvel’s Fantastic Four, there has not been a week go by without another actor being “linked” to the dual role of Clark Kent and Superman in James Gunn’s revamped franchise.
So far, there have been many stars said to have tried out for the role of Superman including David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult as just two of the “front-runners” to follow in the footsteps of Henry Cavill as the Man of Steel. However, who will be getting the role is nowhere near being revealed by scoopers, insiders or anyone else right now, and it seems set to stay that way until Gunn says otherwise. For now, speculation is the name of the game, and nothing more than that.
