Reality TV isn’t for everyone, and Travis Kelce had to learn that the hard way. The NFL superstar had a dating show called Catching Kelce back in 2016. Remember way back then? According to Travis, signing up for that show was the “worst thing” he ever did.
Travis Kelce thinks Catching Kelce was a mistake
In Catching Kelce, the NFL tight end was searching for his “soulmate,” according to the show’s official description. He did it by dating one woman from each of the 50 states, whittling them down each week into he’s left with one.
A lady named Maya Benberry from Kentucky won the show, beating out the other 49 ladies. However, the two’s relationship didn’t pan out. They quickly broke up, and of course, Travis is now happily in love with Taylor Swift.
During a recent appearance on the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast, Travis reflected on his experience with reality TV and was brutally honest. The hosts asked him if he had ever had any run-ins with the police or any other embarrassing low moments. That’s when Travis referenced his short-lived dating show.
“The worst thing I ever did was the dating show,” Travis quipped.
“It didn’t set me up for anything. I didn’t realize what reality TV really was,” he continued. “I don’t even think anybody watched it.”
He might be right about some of it. The series aired right after his rookie season, so he wasn’t a household name at the time. Catching Kelce wasn’t appointment television, but Travis admitted that it felt odd knowing that the show would live on forever, or as long as there’s a network willing to stream it. Either way, he took it in stride and had fun with it. Apparently, so did his teammates.
“It’s locker room banter, it’s all fun,” he admitted.
