Jujutsu Kaisen‘s popularity continues to grow, and with its next season getting closer, the future for the franchise couldn’t be brighter. However, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 will not only bring changes to its story but also to its main character. Now, after much intrigue surrounding the character at the end of the Shibuya Incident arc, it has been confirmed what permanent change Yuji Itadori will undergo in the story.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant at Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, Junya Enoki, Yuji Itadori’s voice actor, pointed out what changes fans can expect from Yuji Itadori’s character, hinting at how the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is part of a larger evolution of his identity.

Yuji Itadori’s Voice Actor Reveals Character’s Biggest Change Ahead of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3

Yuji Itadori’s Emotional State Will Be Relevant in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 ends with a very cold Itadori who, at the climax of his fight with Mahito, admits he is like him but now has changed and understands his role perfectly in the world. A recent statement by his voice actor may have a clue to what Yuji meant, as Junya Enoki reflected on how the emotional tone of his performance changed after the Shibuya Incident arc.

“Up until that point, Yuji didn’t really know what he was fighting for. But by the end of Season 2, it became clear why he needed to risk his life—that clarity changed how I performed the role.” – Junya Enoki

Although Yuji was initially a kind person who just wanted to help others after becoming a sorcerer, he was very naive. But Junya Enoki signals how the Shibuya Incident completely changed Itadori’s mindset, understanding the real threat of the curses and why he should put his life on the line in the fight against them. This reveals that Yuji’s mental evolution will be relevant in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3.

How Yuji Will Change From Now On

Yuji not only witnessed the murder of his mentor Nanami but also the apparent death of her friend Nobara Kugisaki and the destruction of Sukuna in Shibuya, which took countless civilians’s lives and even permanently injured Toge Inugami. Yuji’s dreadful feelings were represented during his breakdown in the last episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2.

However, fans are yet to see how difficult the toll of this tragedy will be on him. The guilt of being indirectly responsible for the massacre in Shibuya becomes more significant, taking into consideration that Yuji’s grandfather, Wasuke Itadori, asked him to save others before dying.
