Jayme Lawson Stuns At CHANEL Luncheon While Championing Female Filmmakers

Jayme Lawson had some real buzz at the CHANEL x Tribeca Film Festival Women’s Filmmaker Luncheon; the recent Instagram post about it is proof. The actress shared a bonding memory shot from the occasion, dripping confidence in a textured jacket with a white bandeau, and light-wash jeans. Flowing long curls and a glimmering smile that went on for miles added to the empowering vibes of the event in front of a picture-perfect blur of the crowd in the back. But her looks were only half of the buzz- Lawson then went on to share an inspiring quote by an unnamed filmmaker (possibly Ryan Coogler, given that the initials were “R.C.”) about women in the industry.

The quote read: “I feel like women are better filmmakers than men… they’re equipped to do this job, in many ways, better than us. They’re infinitely more complex than we are. Stronger and sharper. So, you know, we’re going to get better movies [if we have more female filmmakers]. The industry would improve. There will be more, on all this, soon enough,” Lawson promised ominously, hinting at either a forthcoming project or otherwise at more discourse on the subject.

The comments section was inundated with praise from die-hard fans, admiring Lawson “she is darn fine both in her looks and in her works.” One comment stated, “Stunning as always 🙌🏾 Can’t wait to hear more!!!” and another comment hailed her, simply saying, “Just fine for no damn REASON!!😍😍.” The praise went on with one of the fans referencing the ‘Batman’ spinoff ‘The Penguin’ and joking about her impact as a character by claiming, “I understand preacher boy now 😂😂.”

Opposing this were comments with more serious tones, diving into a discussion between her seeming recognizing the impediments encountered by women, particularly Black women in filmmaking: “The industry is a hard place, especially for a woman, and a Black woman at that.” Then the comment takes a turn, “Then it speaks to a mode of suppression for African American horror stories.” Meanwhile, others could barely compliment her style without blurting it out, “Elegance does not consist in putting on a new dress,” quoting Coco Chanel.

And then, as with nearly everything that hits the internet, some less mature reactions just added fuel to the fire. One person barked something along, “ARF ARF GRRRRR BARK BARK BARK,” while another one showed the appreciation in a way that is better left unpublished! Well, with looks like that, a thunderstorm in the comments was, in a way, foreordained!

It is worth noting that Jayme Lawson’s Instagram post was more than just style. She has shown between the snazzy snapshot and the terse conversation about female filmmakers that she is here in the industry for more than just acting. Her intent is to stir, and it seems people are either ready to hear her on this. Or else, they’d bark as loud as they could if she so much as warming up with a mention of it! In any case, she’s grown some strong claws that are in full display!

Since she promised “more on all this soon,” then you can safely put your last dime on the fact that Lawson is not going to put the fire on this particular conversation for the last time. Whether she takes up behind-camera duties or kills on-camera, one thing is certain: Hollywood better keep up.
