Marvel’s newest television show, Secret Invasion, has tried several different promotional stunts to get people interested in the show, using more unconventional methods than most movies or shows would. This includes an entire secret website they set up to look like you’re in a spy movie and have to hack into the database. The website itself doesn’t hold much — once you know the password, it lets you in and will begin to play a special teaser clip for the show that you can only find there. But after the Secret Invasion Twitter account tweeted a simple “Fury, you there?” they began to post and delete a series of images fans were quick to screenshot and begin to piece together.
These pieces, once put together properly, created a promotional image that shared the password-locked website. Of course, getting the password was the real struggle, though it also existed amongst the images. While there are plenty of news sites sharing the website and password now, so you don’t have to investigate for yourself, there was a lot of digging that had to happen in order for the password to be found in the first place. Instead of a related word or phrase, it’s a random string of numbers and letters that fans had to piece together from nothing.
2 Piecing Together The Puzzle
Though it might not seem like it, this image is all you need to get into the website. Confused? You wouldn’t be the only one. The website, www.theinvasionhasbegun.com, is written out in its entirety here, and it’s even circled. This drew everyone’s attention, so of course, it wasn’t long before people typed it into their own search bars and were met with a mostly empty screen with just a password prompter in the middle of it. You might think the password would be something related to the show, like Nick Fury or Skrulls, but without a set length on the website, the possibilities seemed endless.
And endless they were until the password was solved. If you haven’t solved it for yourself, it’s RSD3PX5N7S. The length of the password, as well as the last two characters, are actually already given to you. Right in the center, to the left of the website and with an arrow pointing towards it, is a piece of paper that only says “PW:” which is then followed by eight blanks and 7S. This tells us the password for the website is ten characters long, including the two given, and lets us know it’s the website’s password with the arrow.
From there, we can assume the rest of the image is going to help us out with solving the entire password. Each clue is separated into two character chunks and spread across the image, hiding in plain sight. In the top left, next to the sketch of the face of a Skrull and a man, is another note mentioning shapeshifters. The RS at the end of that word is highlighted and also features another arrow pointing towards it, signifying its importance. Next to it is a simple Post-it note that solely reads D3, and these characters are circled. Every clue about the password features a highlight or circle of some kind, so we can pull these two out as important.
The next clue is a lot harder to see, as it’s hidden by its surroundings. On that same mostly redacted sheet of paper that the website is on, you might notice the 7S circled, showing us the end of the password. With these two pieces of information already on one sheet of paper, however, it’s easy to overlook the third. At the top of the page, there is a little bit more text that isn’t redacted, and up there, you’ll find a PX underlined and with a question mark. Though it’s supposedly some kind of protocol name, it’s actually a piece of the puzzle you need to solve.
1 Final Clue Has MCU Connections
There’s one clue left, and it’s once again over to the left. On the death report for Fury, there isn’t a whole lot of information uncovered. Of course, we can assume this report is from when he faked his death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. So while the report itself wouldn’t have given us any new details or hints on the series, the case number at the top does. While it’s also just a random string of characters, the 5N is both highlighted and circled, showing us its importance and giving us the last piece of the puzzle.
Of course, there’s still stringing the characters together in the right order. This particular step is a little unclear. Your first instinct might be to see if the strings connect the clues to give the right answer, but they don’t. It might have had something to do with the order Marvel posted each part of the image too, but without being able to reference them, it’s unclear if this is the case. However, if you read everything from left to right and top to bottom, like you would read anything else, the only outlier is the last two digits, meaning this is most likely how people pieced the numbers together. Even if that’s not the case, it wouldn’t be too hard to guess the correct order once you solved the code. The final result lands you on a teaser clip featuring Everett Ross and a new character, Agent Prescod.
All of these clues will likely make more sense once Secret Invasion premieres on Disney+ on June 21, 2023. A new episode will air every Wednesday for six weeks, concluding on July 26, 2023.
