Gracie Abrams Reflects On Unforgettable Madison Square Garden Shows

Still bathed in the feeling that she had two nights of solo shows at Madison Square Garden, Abrams will say, and I’m with her! The singer-songwriter provided a somewhat emotive account of the feeling, calling an Instagram story where she explained just how surreal everything felt. She thanked everyone, from the crowd to the special guests. The black-and-white photograph summed it all up: two artists locked in a respective embrace under the shooter stage lights as energy throbs inside the most legendary venue of New York City.

“Playing MSG still doesn’t even remotely sound like a real thing that could ever happen in a million years,” Abrams said, filled with disbelief as if the words just jumped off the page. She expressed gratitude towards Role Model for joining her once more on The Secret of Us tour and, with a wink, gave a few props to Lizzy McAlpine, apologetically admitting she forgot to harmonize with Lizzy’s vocals because she was too busy being amazed at her talent. That’s Gracie for you—forever self-deprecating, forever sincere.

And the comment section? An ocean of love and pride. One fan exclaimed in all caps, “U AND LIZZY ARE THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO US,” while another chimed with “so forever proud of you”. Instagram itself gave a standing ovation with bouquet emojis sprinkled all over. The ultimate kicker came from a less-than-likely VIP who lamented, “yeah so i should have been there,” voice that certainly represents our mood as well.

There was never a chance for Abrams’ post to keep the feeling fresh—the longest of thank-yous went out to all who made it happen. She thanked the crowd for showing up, dropped a teaser for her Chicago stop, then told the world how deeply that moment had touched her heart. I think judging from the reaction, it touched theirs just as deeply.

This shot speaks for the euphoric moment itself. Two acts locked in a victorious embrace, while around them, in a blur, eager fans held up their cell phones: That is a night they didn’t want to forget. This is a photograph that could stir a feeling of wishing one were there—or at least were blasting her live recordings while looking at it.

So, what’s next? One thing that is certain is that Chicago comes next, but my gut feeling tells me those shows at MSG are going to be etched forever in Gracie’s memory (and ours). Possibly forever.
