As reported by PEOPLE, star Maya Hawke recently revealed that she has “mixed” feelings about her Stranger Things character Robin Buckley having a girlfriend in season 5. During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, the Do Revenge actor said that her feelings about Robin possibly finding love in the fifth season were complicated, but she does believe it would be a “great thing.”
Hawke’s Robin was first introduced to fans of the Netflix series back in the third season and has since become a popular character on the show. With Hawke’s character having gotten close to Vickie (played by Amybeth McNulty) and with the end of Stranger Things still to come, some fans of the horror drama are hoping that Robin will get to have a relationship in the fifth and final season.
Still, Hawke told the outlet that she isn’t sure if that storyline is necessary for her character. She said, “I don’t know. I feel mixed about it. I feel that it’s both a great thing, but I also love characters where their love life is not the center of their existence.”
The Fear Street Part One: 1994 actor added that she felt Robin’s platonic relationships were also significant, saying, “That friendship with Steve is so special. And friendships have been carrying me through my life. I think they’re really important and they deserve their airtime.”
Previously, back in May, PEOPLE confirmed that production for the final season of Stranger Things has been postponed as a result of the ongoing writers strike.
The Duffer Brothers Previously Confirmed on Twitter That Production for the Final Season of Stranger Things Has Been Delayed
Stranger Things showrunners, the Duffer Brothers (along with creators and executive producers) for the series, addressed the delay on Twitter, stating that “writing does not stop when filming begins.”
They added, “While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out. #wgastrong.”
Back in February of 2022, the Duffer Brothers confirmed that season 5 would conclude the Stranger Things series and teased the “supersized” season 4, which aired last summer. Later in May of 2022, the showrunner revealed to The Wrap that they “have an outline for season 5 and we pitched it to Netflix and they really responded well to it.”
In addition to discussing her Stranger Things character, Hawke also recently revealed the most trouble she got into as a teenager on Tuesday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. While promoting her part in Wes Anderson’s new film Asteroid City, Hawke spoke about a time that she “lied” to her parents, stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman.
Hawke stated, “I said I was going to therapy and I really went to lose my virginity.” After laughing, the Mainstream star said that she couldn’t “believe I just said that” before adding, “my father was very, very upset.”
Hawke then noted that her father “gave me a really hard time” before she stated something that surprised him. She said, “He went, ‘Where were you? Where did you go?’ And I said, ‘How am I supposed to have secrets if I can’t tell lies?’ “
She added, “He was like, ‘F— this kid!’ He was like, ‘Oh, that’s good. Foiled again!'”
