Blame Joe Biden for the chaos and misery at the southern border this week, as President Trump followed through on his promise to shut down the CBP One app.
Hundreds of migrants refused to leave the San Ysidro border checkpoint even after the app went dark and all upcoming appointments were canceled. Some broke down in tears.
And why wouldn’t they be frustrated?
Technically, they did exactly as they were told: They downloaded the app, set up their appointments and showed up at the border to wait their turn, following the process the Biden administration put in place.
But the CBP One system, which Biden expanded without congressional approval in January 2023, was a sick scam from the beginning — a way for the administration to cover up the border crisis and hide true illegal immigration numbers by rubberstamping even the most bogus asylum applications.
The result: 900,000 migrants were waved in “legally” through the app, including Tren de Aragua gang members and terror suspects.
And thanks to the Biden administration signaling that the border was wide open and the CBP One was a free-for-all for those seeking an easy way into the United States, a huge backlog built up: One migrant posted up at the border Monday claimed she had been waiting for an appointment for 11 months.
Trump was 100% right to pull the plug on CBP One’s conveyer-belt approval process on Day 1.
Not only did it spit in the face of US immigration law, it was a national-security nightmare.
Democrats will point to the tales of woe as proof that Trump is a heartless brute for shutting down the scheme, but Biden owns this crisis from top to bottom.
He’s the one who put unsustainable, illegitimate policies in place that encouraged millions of people to trek to the southern border, and then left them high and dry, knowing his predecessor would be the one cleaning up the mess.
By putting a big, flashing “no illegal crossing permitted” sign on the southern border, Trump, in reality, is showing far more compassion than Biden ever did.
