Malia Baker’s recent post created a wave of nostalgia and gratitude owing to the rare opportunity to perform live alongside the rest of her cast family. The starlet, who rose to prominence with the Descendants series, crowned her poignant note with a snippet from what appeared to be a concert moment where she fervently talked about the connection with the crowd.

The ear-shattering cries “We’re gonna win” from the crowd under the aura are the proverbial tribute to the Descendants world opposite Baker. The caption was another emotional one: “The best singing partners I could ever ask for 😭♥️ thank you for making every night doing this song so special, it’s truly one of my favourite moments seeing all of the lights flash on.” She joked, probably in reference to how influential her character is, “Mal HAS to know she changed lives (and baking cookies) with this song.”
The comment section was flooded with amorous throwbacks by the goofies reminiscing on their own view of her live: “Being able to witness this live made me tear up🥹 love u malili,” said a user, another one admitted, “oh I’m about to sob just getting to experience this in person.” Emotional responses kept flowing, with most of them reminiscing about their own experiences with her live shows. Some called it “healing” for their inner child, just showing how deep the franchise has cut into their hearts through the years.
Then came the comments that did not go along with the nostalgic mood. One offended commenter took Baker to task for referring to her character as “Mal” and not giving due credit to Dove Cameron, the actress who originally portrayed the role. “How would you feel if in 10 years from now, another person covered your song and didn’t say MALIA and just called you Chloe?” they asked, using Cameron’s real first name. The remark ignited somewhat of an acrimonious debate in the replies, with others rushing to Baker’s defense, saying she simply meant no harm by the tribute.
Int’l fans couldn’t be silenced. “And to hear this live I need you to come to Latam (Peru)🥺🫶,” pleaded one, followed by another, “Come to Longueil, Quebec plz 🙏🏾.” These demands speak of just how far Baker has come in her career.
Throwback vibes, rawity on stage, or pure joy as another generation embraces the Descendants legacy—all of which signal that one outer chord was struck with Malia Baker’s post. According to the comments, the magic would never lose its hold.

Side note: Can we also talk about how nobody’s over the fact that Disney hasn’t dropped a concert special on Disney+ yet? Because same. The people need it.
