James Gunn’s DCU seems a long way from casting its new Wonder Woman, which obviously means that fans have had to take things into their own hands – with a little AI help – and share what the ever-popular Ana De Armas could look like as the DCU’s lasso-wielding heroine. The original plan for the DCU included Paradise Lost, a series that would go back into the history of Wonder Woman and Themyscira’s Amazons, but there has been no word on whether the series is still coming, or when.
So while everyone waits to find out who will actually take on the role of Diana Prince, you can feast your eyes on de Armas in what boils down to Gal Gadot’s costume as seen in her two solo movies, and several other collaborative appearances. It is unlikely that de Armas will end up being cast in the role, and when Wonder Woman does make her DCU debut, it wouldn’t be too much to ask for her to have a new costume too. However, we take what we can, so for now, this is what you get.
The Future of Wonder Woman in the DCU is Uncertain
If there is one thing that has become clear this year, it is that there is nothing set in stone about the future of the DC franchise under James Gunn and Peter Safran. Many of the projects that were originally announced as being the first 10 projects for the “Gods and Monsters” chapter of the DCU have either changed, been pushed back, or been abandoned entirely.
While Swamp Thing has gone into limbo thanks to the busy schedule of potential director James Mangold, and The Authority movie has also been scrapped, Paradise Lost is still on the slate for the coming years, but seems to have fallen a little behind where many expected it to be at this point.
In June, Gunn confirmed that Paradise Lost is “slow-moving, but it’s moving.” He also noted that the series will have connections to the Wonder Woman movie, which is “a separate thing, but being written right now.” However, several months later and we are still waiting for word on exactly where either the series or movie are at. Considering Man of Tomorrow has recently been announced, a movie that was not even on the cards when the original list of DCU movies and shows was announced, whether we do get to see Wonder Woman on screen in the next several years is always in doubt until confirmation of some definite progress comes from either Gunn or another official source.
When it comes to Ana de Armas, her career is doing just fine without needing to worry too much if she is not the actress cast in the role of the DCU’s Wonder Woman. After her recent John Wick movie, Ballerina, and the disappointing Ron Howard movie Eden, she will be seen alongside Tom Cruise in an upcoming supernatural deep-sea thriller.
