Gen V is back, and it’s already earning some super reviews. The first three episodes of the second season premiered on Prime Video on Wednesday, Sept. 17, quickly picking up where Season 4 of The Boys left off. Truly bridging the gap between the two shows, Gen V continues to introduce more familiar faces and storylines from its flagship show as it leads up to its explosive final season.
While Gen V Season 2 has already been Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with critics giving it a solid 87%, it’s received some mixed reviews, and it still has a way to go to catch up to Season 1’s near perfect score of 97%. Empire Magazine‘s David Opie called the new episodes a level-up from the first season as it “looks to set the new standard for superhero TV in 2025.” However, the Daily Beast‘s Nick Schager called it a “repetitive and charisma-challenged teen-supes saga” that hasn’t fully matured in comparison to The Boys.
‘Gen V’ Season 2 Delicately Handles Chance Perdomo’s Death
One of the biggest unknowns in the lead-up to the new season was how the show would navigate the tragic loss of Chance Perdomo. The Gen V star passed away in a motorcycle accident in March 2024 — only a few weeks before the show had been scheduled to begin filming again. He was 27 years old.
The decision was quickly made not to recast Perdomo. Instead, they chose to tastefully work his death into the plot. Fans remember that the first season ended with Marie (Jazz Sinclair), Andre (Perdomo), Jordan (London Thor; Derek Luh), and Emma (Lizzie Broadway) imprisoned at the Elmira Adult Rehabilitation Center. In Season 2, it’s confirmed that Andre died there while bravely attempting to save his friends amid a daring escape attempt. Gone but far from forgotten, Andre is frequently mentioned throughout the first few episodes as the characters process their grief — a feeling the actors also experienced throughout production.
In a September interview with The Wrap, Sinclair said that Perdomo’s death left the cast with a “big hole” in their hearts.
“Having to move forward without Chance was really heavy for everybody and really difficult emotionally. My personal experience with it was just trying to get through it and do him as much justice as we can.”
