It’s all too easy to overpack for a holiday, especially in the winter months. Simply adding a few extra jumpers or jeans to your luggage can bulk out your suitcase, and it could exceed your airline’s weight limit if you’re flying for your trip.
Thankfully, a travel enthusiast has revealed an easy suitcase hack that anyone can use to prevent overpacking, and she claims it “works every time.” Content creator @amira_rajab shared her tried-and-tested method in a viral post, and it’s simple to use.
Recommending the tip to her 100,000 followers, Amira said: “I feel like I’ve had to pack a suitcase quite a bit the past few months, and as somebody who severely overpacks, I’m gonna show you how I pack my suitcase.”
She explained: “Step one, I do laundry, and then I set out all of the outfits I potentially want to bring. I set out all of my nice clothes, all of my fitness clothes, cause I am gonna be training while I’m gone. Then I literally grab one pair of fitness clothes, one nice outfit.
“First choices will go in the suitcase, and then I fill it up until it just barely closes. So that way, all of my first choices of outfits are in the suitcase, and anything that doesn’t fit, I didn’t want that bad.”
Amira added: “On this side, I’ll do shoes and toiletries and, like, purses and stuff. And then I always end up packing exactly what I want, and it always works out. But I never forget anything, and I always have the outfits I want. I’ve never had any issues. It always works out great. Try this method and let me know if it works for you.”
She captioned the video: “How I pack my suitcase as a certified overpacker.” The post earned over 2,500 views and hundreds of likes. Viewers praised the method.
Someone commented: “Wait this is so smart, i never have enough room for everything i want. Definitely doing this for my next trip!” Another fan of the idea said: “Omg i needed this video so badly.”
Elsewhere on TikTok, @readyjetroam shared another video to help anyone who struggles with overpacking. Lisa told her followers: “Stop overpacking! After travelling to over 90 countries, I can confidently say there are 10 items you NEVER need in your suitcase.”
The travel fan explained: “I’ve learned the hard way what never needs to go in my suitcase — no matter where I’m headed.” She then explained why she leaves the ten items at home, and said she’s confident doing so.
Her list included multiple pairs of shoes, full-sized toiletries, jewellery, and beach towels. She also warned against packing items just in case you need them. Lisa said: “If you’re packing something for a situation you made up in your head, don’t. You can buy almost anything you actually end up needing.”
