The show follows a group of students who are recruited to a secret academy, in a similar vein to Gen V. The students discover that their magical abilities are linked to a book they all read as children.
The Magicians earned a Rotten Tomatoes score of 91%. Screen Rant gave it a positive review, noting, “The Magicians takes real world twentysomething issues and throw some serious magic in the mix.” The series is based on the popular coming-of-age book of the same name by Lev Grossman.
The Capture
The Capture season 1 arrives on Prime Video on October 1, 2025. The conspiracy thriller series was originally released in 2019 and stars several A-list actors, including Ron Perlman, Callum Turner, Paapa Essiedu, and Holliday Grainger.
Turner plays Shaun Emery, a British soldier who is freed from allegations that he committed murder during his active duty in Afghanistan. Grainger’s Detective Inspector Rachel Carey works diligently to get to the bottom of the case.
The Capture earned an outstanding 96% Rotten Tomatoes score. TIME Magazine’s review called it a “rare thriller that is not just smart and gripping, but also deeply engaged with our bizarre, often terrifying present.” If you’re a fan of conspiracy thriller shows like The Terminal List and Paradise, then The Capture is a great option for you.
The Good Place
After all four seasons of The Good Place left Netflix last week, they have now found a new home on Amazon Prime Video. The celebrated series, which was nominated for 12 Emmys, is now exclusively available to watch on Prime Video.
Kristen Bell and Ted Danson led the great ensemble cast in The Good Place, which offers viewers feel-good comedy, lighthearted romance, and some thought-provoking concepts of life and death. Few shows capture the same warmth as The Good Place, which makes it the perfect show to watch on Prime Video this week if you’re trying to unwind.
The Atlantic called The Good Place “a comedic appraisal of philosophy, morality, and the meaning of life” with “a lightness of tone that kept things defiantly frivolous.” The series received a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 97%, including multiple seasons with perfect 100% ratings.
Animal Kingdom
If you’re trying to dive into an all-time classic crime series that still has a modern look and feel, then Animal Kingdom is one of your best bets on Amazon Prime Video. The show, which is an adaptation of the 2010 movie of the same name, is inspired by true events and the infamous real-life Australian crime family known as the Pettingills.
Animal Kingdom originally premiered on TNT back in 2016 and grew to six seasons with a total of 75 episodes. Although the series was consistently acclaimed by critics and viewers, it mostly flew under the radar when it came to the major TV award ceremonies.
Animal Kingdom features a great cast that includes Scott Speedman, Jake Weary, Molly Gordon, Shawn Hatosy, Ellen Barkin, and more. The series is most celebrated for its raw, gritty tone, great characters, and addictive, adrenaline-fueled story set in sunny Southern California.
The first season of Animal Kingdom received a solid 76% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics and an outstanding audience score of 91%. The Boston Globe noted, “This series adaptation of the 2010 movie Animal Kingdom is remarkably confident from the start. The story unfolds naturally, the hand-held camerawork is quite effective, and the acting is aces.”
Hannibal
Hannibal is one of the best psychological horror series of all time, led by a legendary performance by Mads Mikkelsen as the notorious Dr. Hannibal Lecter. It serves as a prequel series to the groundbreaking film The Silence of the Lambs, in which Anthony Hopkins played the cannibalistic doctor.
Hannibal follows Lecter as he works alongside a prolific FBI criminal profiler named Will Graham. The series originally premiered back in 2013 and consists of 39 episodes across three seasons. It also features performances by Laurence Fishburne, Gillian Anderson, and Hugh Dancy.
Hannibal earned Rotten Tomatoes scores of 94% and 93% for critics and audiences, respectively. The first season has the lowest rating of the series, but its final two seasons end the show on an all-time high note. Hannibal is one of the best series on Amazon Prime Video to officially kick off spooky season.
