Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9!Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 continues several major stories that have received the focus in recent weeks, resolving a few major questions surrounding the characters. The entirety of Ted Lasso‘s last season on Apple TV+ has given fresh narratives to Ted, Rebecca, Keeley, Roy, Jamie, and Nate. Each of these characters has remained at the center of the story that is being told, leading to many reveals coming about each of their lives. The primary storylines have included the fallout of Keeley and Roy’s breakup, Ted and Rebecca’s search for happiness and love, and Nate and Jamie growing in positions of leadership.
After Ted Lasso season 3, episode 8 continues exploring these storylines, the ninth episode of the season once again provided various updates on these characters. However, the main storyline at play in the latest episode centered around Colin. The season revealed early on that Colin is gay, leading to questions about how this secret would come out and how his AFC Richmond teammates would react to such news. Following the moment from episode 8 when Isaac seemingly found out, he and Colin’s relationship is at the heart of episode 9. Here is a full Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 recap covering the biggest reveals.
5 Jack & Keeley’s Relationship Is Officially Over
One of the biggest Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 reveals comes with a confirmation that Jack and Keeley’s relationship is officially over. The romance that was once so easy to navigate took a turn in the last episode, resulting in Jack leaving Keeley’s house and being unsure if she would return. Episode 9 reveals early on that Jack is ghosting Keeley after she has sent her multiple texts following the decision for them to go on a break. Keeley gets as close to an official breakup once Jack texts her back to say she’ll be out of the country for the next few months.
The decision to end Keeley and Jack’s relationship at this point in Ted Lasso season 3 could be quite telling for what is to come. With only three more episodes left before the series ends, Keeley being single again could mean that the final episodes spend time showing her healing. This could include potentially rekindling a romance with Roy – or even Jamie. There is certainly the chance that Ted Lasso season 3 ends with Keeley being single as well, but it now appears that Jack will not be part of her storyline going forward.
4 Isaac Is Ejected From A Match After Reaction To Homophobic Slur
Isaac has a pivotal role to play in Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9, as his reaction to finding out that Colin is gay takes a major focus. This begins with him not acknowledging Colin and even refusing to touch his hand at different points. His anger toward Colin boils over in a match, leading to a verbal altercation between them. He is unable to calm down from this point and his anger boils over at halftime. He hears an AFC Richmond fan call him a homophobic slur, which brings Isaac to charge the stands, get a red card, and be ejected from the rest of the match.
The reason that Isaac confronted the fan after hearing the “f-word” is initially a moment that could be seen as the AFC Richmond captain being homophobic, but the truth is very different. Isaac is one of Colin’s best friends and he reveals that he was angry with Colin for keeping the secret and fearing Colin thought he would not accept him. Attacking the homophobic fan was his way of strangely standing up for Colin. He did not want anyone who might be gay to have to put up with the ignorant comments and decided to take a stand against that in the process of getting ejected.
3 Colin Tells The AFC Richmond Team He Is Gay
Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 builds on Isaac’s ejection and the homophobic slur as a chance for Colin to come out as gay to the entire AFC Richmond team. Isaac’s stand leads to speculation from the rest of the team that he might be gay after he leaves the locker room, but Colin sets the record straight. Although Ted Lasso does not actually show Colin coming out to the team, he does so and is unequivocally accepted by the coaches and fellow players.
Although Colin decides to come out to the team, his sexuality is still otherwise private. He does not plan on telling the public anytime soon, telling Isaac that he is happy to have the entire team know for now. What matters more to Colin is that those closest to him are accepting of him, not gaining some potential additional fame by being an openly gay athlete. Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 makes a point to reinforce the idea that not only is everyone on the AFC Richmond team still cool with Colin but that they also do care about him and that he is gay.
2 Nate Chooses Jade Over Rupert
Nate’s redemption arc continues thanks to one specific Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 reveal. The West Ham coach has recently started to find happiness and acceptance for who he really is by dating Jade. Their relationship continues to move forward in the latest episode, which includes her meeting Rupert for the first time. The positive side of Nate that Jade keeps bringing out conflict with the personality Rupert wants his coach to have, resulting in him continuing to try and manipulate and corrupt him in episode 9. This includes inviting Nate out for a “guys night,” which to Rupert means drinking and cheating on his wife.
The invitation to the guys night is initially viewed as a great development for Nate and a chance to bond with his boss, but seeing Rupert’s plans for the evening quickly turns him off from spending more time together. That means Nate making an excuse to leave Rupert so he can spend time with Jade instead. Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 makes it clear that Rupert is not a fan of Nate’s relationship with Jade, likely viewing it as a distraction, making it his mission to undermine it however he can. Instead of falling prey to Rupert’s mind games, Nate choosing Jade shows he is still good.
1 Roy Takes Rebecca’s Life Advice
Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 also features a moment of growth for Roy after he gets some life advice from Rebecca. He initially skips out on a press conference she tells him to do, which makes her quite angry. It leads to Rebecca questioning if Roy’s plan for his life is to walk away from everything the moment it gets hard and is not fun anymore, which was a clear criticism of what happened between him and Keeley. She ends her speech by telling Roy to get out of his own head so he has a chance to be happy and get what he really wants in life.
Rebecca’s advice quickly brings about some change and self-recognition of Roy’s faults. His speech to Isaac about anger is clearly also a breakthrough moment for him and realizing how his bottled-up anger and frustrations have ruined parts of his life that he did care about. While Ted Lasso season 3, episode 9 pays off this story by having Roy actually do the post-game press conference, it will not be surprising if his new mindset means setting things right with Keeley and attempting to repair that relationship.
