Yellowstone Prequel 1923 to Conclude with Season 2, Confirms Brandon Sklenar

1923, a prequel to the hit television show Yellowstone, is set to conclude after its second season. The show tells the story of the Dutton family a century before the events of Yellowstone, with a focus on the new generation of Duttons led by patriarch Jacob and matriarch Cara. The series takes place during a tumultuous time in American history, including periods of Western expansion, pandemics, drought, the end of Prohibition, and the Great Depression. These events test the resilience of the Duttons as they navigate their lives in the mountain west.

Initially intended as a limited series comprising only two seasons, 1923 had been rumored to be potentially extended or rebooted beyond its initial run. However, Brandon Sklenar, the actor who portrays Spencer Dutton, has confirmed that the Yellowstone prequel will conclude with the end of its second season. During a recent cast panel with The Hollywood Reporter, Sklenar was asked about the possibility of future seasons of the show, to which he replied that “it’s bookend,” indicating that the show’s ending was planned from the beginning.

“No, no, it’s bookend. It’s still limited, but I think of it as one piece — there’s just a split in the middle, but it’s all one piece. It will conclude.”

1923 boasts an impressive cast of talented actors, including Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Julia Schlaepfer, Jerome Flynn, Jennifer Ehle, Robert Patrick, Sebastian Roché, and Timothy Dalton. Notably, the show also features Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren in leading roles. The series was created by Taylor Sheridan, who is also the creator of the highly acclaimed series Yellowstone. Yellowstone Ending with Season 5, Paving the Way for New Sequel Series

Paramount

Yellowstone will be coming to an end after its current fifth season, which will air on Paramount Network in November. Reports suggest that there has been friction between Kevin Costner and the show’s production team due to scheduling issues over the remaining episodes of season 5, resulting in the actor’s departure from the show. Despite Paramount Network President Keith Cox’s belief that Costner would continue with the show, the decision has been made to end the series.

Instead of continuing the show without Costner, Paramount has decided to prioritize a sequel series. Chris McCarthy, the CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, released a statement in which he expressed his confidence in the upcoming Yellowstone sequel. McCarthy is convinced that the new sequel will also be a hit, largely due to the creativity of the show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, and the talented casts who bring his vision to life on screen.

“Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits — from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” the statement reads#

The new series is set to arrive on Paramount+ in December. It has not been officially titled, but it will reportedly include Yellowstone in its title to indicate that it is a continuation of the original series.
