Derek Hough Plays Piano For Unborn Child In Heartwarming Musical Moment

Derek Hough shared a very beautiful and intimate moment where he played piano for his yet-to-be-born baby, as he showed his musical talents and at the same time was getting closer to the child before birth. He also uploaded a video on his Dancing With The Stars’ judge’s page where he was seen playing the piano and jokingly wrote, “I need to clean the dust off my piano,” although his performance already implied the opposite—that he was not rusty at all in his musical skills.

In the video, Hough was heard performing Canon in D and addressing his baby that was not born yet. “I am learning any song on Canon,” he jokingly says but his playing demonstrates that he can definitely do that and even more. He goes as far as calling the baby (whose gender is still unknown) and asking “Hey buddy, are you the cowardly lion?” and then softly and playfully, he improvises about his “sweet boy” that is dancing through life and learning to sing.

This small incident is just one of many that Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert have shared publicly about their pregnancy. Erbert has endured a lot as she was recovering from a cranial hematoma that required emergency surgery last December and many followers found this musical interlude particularly beautiful as it was filled with joy.

The touching moment soon received reactions mostly from fellow musicians. Singing star Scott Hoying commented “This is soooooo sweet,” while Natasha Bedingfield expressed her joy about the couple’s impending parenthood by saying “You guys baby is going to be so Beautiful. So excited for you.”

Quite a number of commenters pointed out Hough’s seemingly unending talent. One wrote “Wow how can one person be so talented?” another was even more praise-worthy giving a less flattering comment “You really ARE such an artist!!! Wow.” The viewers concurred that musical talent runs deep in the Hough family, one person wrote, “I already feel this kid has a music gift in his sweet little soul.”

The post initiated a conversation about prenatal music exposure among parents in the comments section. A mother shared her experience of doing the same, saying “I did this for my kids and also put headphones around my belly. Every single song they remembered and loved today. They are also musicians. Keep on doing this it will help their brain development and memory skills.”

Another parent from her experience: “My husband used to play guitar for me when I was pregnant with my last child – now he is 3 – … he would get so wrapped up in his playing that I would almost get sick from all the action around me!!! And now they all sing and play together so much! It’s the best!!!” The story implies that Hough’s musical connection might have long-lasting impressions on his child’s development and the interests of the kids.

There were various comments concerning the couple’s parenting skills. One commenter said “You guys are already fantastic parents. The baby is so fortunate to have you.” Another person merely stated “Awww What a nice Daddy and Mommy!” implying that the general atmosphere was that the musical episode revealed Hough’s abilities to be a father.

This clip serves as a diversion from the difficult medical issues the couple has been dealing with recently. Hough has been documenting Erbert’s recovery process after her emergency surgery, thus this musical interlude was a much-needed moment to let loose from the stress and to share a moment of joy and expectancy for their growing family.

Seemingly, the spectators also sensed the authenticity of the situation; one comment practically encapsulated it all: “So talented. Love everything you do. From dance to fun! Love you guys.” The post was a reminder that even the leading artists have their private, simple moments of bonding away from the stage and the cameras.

Hough’s entertainment career is not limited to dancing only. He has previously exhibited his talent and proficiency in singing and playing instruments; however, the public piano performance for his unborn child was one of the rare cases where he combined his professional skills and personal hopes and coincidentally struck the right chord with the audience. Derek Hough has also recently opened up about his personal struggles.

The tremendous number of reactions to the video suggests that the fans are eager to receive new updates about the couple’s pregnancy problems and equally their new baby. For now, the musical incident is a delightful representation of baby bonding through the universal language of music. Carrie Ann Inaba and Hilaria Baldwin have both shared memorable moments with Hough recently. Additionally, Taylor Swift appeared in one of Hough’s memorable Dancing With The Stars throwbacks.
