The Underrated Stephen King-Inspired Horror Show on Netflix

An underrated TV show has arrived on Netflix, and it should be just the thing for Stephen King fans. This streaming platform has long been a hub for movie and TV adaptations of the legendary horror author’s works. However, those who have already made it through 1922, Doctor Sleep, Gerald’s Game, and more may be on the hunt for something new.

On October 29, 2025, Netflix added the 2019 TV show NOS4A2 to its library. This series is adapted from the 2013 novel of the same name by Joe Hill. Created by Jami O’Brien and starring Ashleigh Cummings and Zachary Quinto, this supernatural horror drama should be the next series for any Stephen King fan’s watch list.

Why NOS4A2 Is Perfect For Stephen King Fans

An aged Charlie Manx looks on in NOS4A2

In a significant way, NOS4A2 wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for King, since the novel’s author is his son. Hill has followed in his father’s footsteps as a fantastic novelist, with notable works including Heart-Shaped Box, Horns, 20th Century Ghosts, and Locke & Key.

NOS4A2 is pronounced “Nosferatu,” a word used for vampires in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula.

Like King, Hill’s works exist primarily within the fantasy horror genre. NOS4A2 follows Cummings’ Victoria McQueen, a young artist with the supernatural ability to sense and track the immortal being Charlie Manx (Quinto), who preys on the souls of children. Manx sends what remains of his victims to the unsettling realm of Christmasland, where aggressive happiness is mandated by law.

NOS4A2 is twisted, exciting, and, of course, a little horrifying. The series even includes some references to King’s famous works, such as IT and The Dark Tower. Naturally, this makes NOS4A2 a must-watch—even better, it makes for the perfect two-season binge.

NOS4A2 Is Two Seasons Long, But It Tells A Complete Story

NOS4A2 premiered in 2019 and was canceled by AMC after its second season in 2020. The choice to end the series ultimately came down to ratings, but that isn’t to say that NOS4A2 didn’t perform well. With an 82% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was still a hit—it was just underrated while on the air.

The horror show’s cancellation won’t affect viewers’ experience now that it’s arrived on Netflix. NOS4A2‘s two seasons perfectly covered the events of Hill’s original novel, so the story comes to a perfectly satisfactory ending. Had a third season happened, it would have taken the adventure beyond the source material, which isn’t typically preferred anyway.

NOS4A2‘s two seasons comprise 20 episodes, each just under an hour long. It’s the ideal binge for King fans, and this period between Halloween and the Christmas season makes now the perfect time to start watching.
